Talk to me about Rose

what do you think of Rose as a first name?

I know it is much maligned on here as a middle name but I think, for a first name, it is the perfect mix of classic, traditional and trendy old lady which won't date a child quite like all of the other granny chic names....

Thanks

It's not actually that common as a stand alone first name. Most of the Roses I've come across have it as a part of their first name eg. Lily-Rose or as the ubiquitous middle name.

It is lovely, although I'd try and avoid 'Rosie', not a fan of that nickname.

I love it as a first name. DH wanted it if we'd had a girl, but it would have sounded daft with our surname Smile

I really like it. I'm planning to use it as mn for DD2 but also love it as a first name. My only reservation is that people may use Rosie as an affectionate version and that's too cutesy for me.

I love it as a name, first, second wherever. I think it's a stable name, it's neither really in or out of fashion. I went to school with a few Roses, I know some teenage Roses and a few Roses my daughter's age.

I love it, it's DD1's middle name and was my lovely nan's first name so I might be a bit biased.

I'd say if you like it then use it no matter what others say, it's you and your DD that has to live with it.

I like it. Mind you, I like it as a middle name too. I know a couple, so I think it's more popular than people realise, and I do think it will date (but very few names don't. Maybe Catherine and Elizabeth type names, but that's about it).
