STUART!

Can you imagine? He didn't speak to me for a few hours after I burst out laughing in his face and asked, incredulously: "what man, in this day in age, would call their son Stuart?"

ch1134 · 14/09/2013 12:38

Stuart is much better than a lot of the names mentioned on this forum.
How about Jeffrey?

TidyDancer · 13/09/2013 00:43

I know siblings called Alan, Colin and Keith. They are 12, 8 and 5.

It's not weird now because I've known them as they've grown up, but there were a few raised eyebrows when they were all born!

Biscuitsneeded · 12/09/2013 23:06

My son, who's 6, has a school friend called Alan. He's very sweet. He's just had a baby brother called.... Alphonse! The names actually really seem to suit them.

mathanxiety · 12/09/2013 20:06

Larry is

sashh · 12/09/2013 16:48

I don't really understand what's wrong with Stuart.

Stuart Hall?

EnjoyEverySandwich · 12/09/2013 14:07

Gary and Garry are both pronounced the same, to rhyme with Harry.

I'd have thought that the Gary spelling might be the one to cause confusion, as it might be expected to rhyme with Mary Hmm

Dramamama · 12/09/2013 13:32

No strangely she calls him Gary not Gararaey as I am assuming Garry would be pronounced Hmm. I quite like Stuart though my dd's godfather is called Stuart and he's lovely so the name reminds me of him....and a bit of mice (Stuart little)

EnjoyEverySandwich · 12/09/2013 10:40

MadBusLady I agree, it makes no sense to me that people are so derisory about Garry and Barry, but think Harry is cool. What about Larry, does that pass the test?

FobblyWoof · 12/09/2013 08:54

I don't know any Stuarts so I have no moustache reference points. I also know a really awful Alan.

My dfather recently suggested Susan for dc2 Confused

MadBusLady · 12/09/2013 08:19

I will hold my hand up to liking Terry/Terence, purely cos of Spike Milligan. I can see it coming back. It's really not that different to Harry, Ollie and all those if you think about it.

mathanxiety · 12/09/2013 06:21

I like Paul and David and even Denis. I know several small Kevins. I think Gary may be one of those names that has a surprising comeback in store for it.

Terry and Keith otoh....

I recently heard of a newborn Kevin!

CatAmongThePigeons · 11/09/2013 23:45

I know of a Paul, he's 6 and it suits him. Know of a Stuart too. Not the names I'd pick but they're not offensive.

I want to rename DS2 as Cosmo, it's a great name

AberdeenAngusina · 11/09/2013 23:39

There are two Stuarts in our primary school, aged 10 and 8. Plus I have a 28 year old cousin Stuart. But I'm in Scotland, where it's more popular.

CoolStoryBro · 11/09/2013 23:37

Sinderella That's our dog's names!!

CoolStoryBro · 11/09/2013 23:36

Does anyone call their kids Paul anymore? I quite like Paul.

Sindarella · 11/09/2013 23:36

My ds 6yo goes to school with a bertie, his lb is called stanley. Bert and Stan, i love it! Grin

LegoDragon · 11/09/2013 23:35

I know a baby Keith... 3mnths old, I think.

Keith.

EnjoyEverySandwich · 11/09/2013 23:32

Terry? I feel the same way about Tilly, Milly, Molly etc.

Annianni · 11/09/2013 22:59

I know of a baby Terry.

Why would you do that to your child?!

TheBuskersDog · 11/09/2013 22:51

oh Alan is fine for a cat.

Minty82 · 11/09/2013 16:32

It's nothing like David, David's a lovely name!! Stuart is...not.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/09/2013 14:35

Maybe I just know too many middle-aged IT managers with moustaches called Stuart...

I was going to say 'whats wrong with stuart... but the only one I really know is an IT manager, must be 'middle aged' with a beard as well as a moustache. Oh dear.

Someone mentioned Martin - the one I know best was named in tribute to Martin Luther King (born late 50s). There are some names which if you've got a reason like that deserve to be perpetuated.

Goodness it's like David to me - a non name really
DH once worked in a large company which appeared to have a HR policy that at least 70% of staff must be called David. It really did become a non-name, they had no choice but to use surnames.

Titsalinabumsquash · 11/09/2013 14:25

I like Stuart!

One of DS3's middle names is Kenneth. :D

I also like Alan, so that's what we called the cat. Grin

I
