Boring.. Sorry...

WinkyWinkola · 09/09/2013 23:30

Loads of livelier biblical names about.

Rachel
Miriam
Naomi
Abigail

WinkyWinkola · 09/09/2013 23:27

A bit staid.

minidipper · 09/09/2013 23:16

I love it. She is my all time favourite woman from the Bible. I love her story. Immensely strong, kind woman. Great name.

FloraFoxley · 09/09/2013 23:14

Awful, boring, old fashioned, really meh and biblical

EnjoyEverySandwich · 09/09/2013 23:13

I disagree that it's easy to pronounce. Someone has already mentioned the tendency of -th to be pronounced like -f.

Add to that the not uncommon inability to say R, and you may end up with Woof Shock

BackforGood · 09/09/2013 23:03

Bit late to the party, but I like it too, if that helps Grin

PeacockPlumage · 09/09/2013 23:01

I love it, but then I think there's beauty and interest in simpler things. Some says it's boring but what's an exciting name? I think the fact that it is less common, easy to spell and pronounce and has a very long history make it much more attractive to me than the overly frilly, girly names that are popular at the moment.

It fits the bill for a name that suits a baby, child, teen and adult and has nice nn. I put it in the same camp as Mary, Rose, Anne/a, Beth, Kate, Tess, Ellen, Jane if that's any help.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/09/2013 22:54

I love it. I don't think it's boring at all; it's strong and classy.

elah11 · 09/09/2013 22:51

Beautiful timeless name! I love it.

bootsycollins · 09/09/2013 22:50

I love Ruth.

Whatwhatwhat · 09/09/2013 22:48

Good but boring seems to be consensus.
Thanks all. I like it I think.

It's good, and meets the mumsnet test, ie she could grow up to be a model, or a teacher, or a high court judge.

She can't be a pirate, of course, but then maybe you're happy ruling that out as a career choice.

Biscuitsneeded · 09/09/2013 21:54

I think it's a strong name for a principled and not overly frilly person. I like it.

GreatNorthRoad · 09/09/2013 21:41

Ah but that one makes a great "joke" at a leaving do Enjoy - "They thought we were tough before but now we're going to be ....."

Heard that one a few times over the years!

vaticancameo · 09/09/2013 21:36

Lovely, but doesn't work with monosyllabic surnames IMO.

EnjoyEverySandwich · 09/09/2013 21:35

I've never liked it because, ironically, it makes me think of its opposite meaning: ruthless.

I suppose it's because that's one of those odd words where we never use the positive form. Like disgruntled and uncouth.

Purplelooby · 09/09/2013 21:29

Lovely.

Seaweedy · 09/09/2013 20:20

This Irish person can pronounce it perfectly and agrees it is a snooze fest.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 09/09/2013 20:16

Dull.Sorry.

CordeliaRose · 09/09/2013 20:11

Love it Smile
Agree that it's a classic name.

Spookey80 · 09/09/2013 16:08

I like it too, dh doesn't.

GreatNorthRoad · 09/09/2013 16:07

Yes, sorry Sqoosh, i thought that as soon as a pressed post

idiot55 · 09/09/2013 16:03

Love it, nice and short, easy to spell, impossible to mispronounce and difficult to shorten , so all good!

squoosh · 09/09/2013 16:02

Tiny, angry, wizened old woman.
