For a boy? Or similar alternatives?

I'm not keen on either. Sorry.
Surnamey boys names I do like (and know)
Charlton
Ridley
Fenwick
Emerson

Littlecherublegs · 11/09/2013 11:43

Beckett out of the two, Beck is quite cool!

Also like Benedict and Bram which have been mentioned.

If you like surnamey names how about:
Grayson
Jackson
Branson
Wilson
Jameson
Carter
Parker
Cooper
Taylor
Smith
Brock

squoosh · 10/09/2013 14:13

I love Bram as suggested above, such a cool name.

TheContrastofWhiteonWhite · 10/09/2013 14:10

Not keen on either I'm afraid. Though if I recall correctly Stella McCartney has a Beckett. I think it's marginally better than Bennett, which I think will sound awful in a lot of accents - sort of Ben-it.

What do you think is similar? Are you after a B sound, or a surname name for example?

moominleigh94 · 10/09/2013 14:07

I actually really like Beckett, makes me think of Carson Beckett off Stargate Grin I don't think there's too much wrong with a surname as a first name if it's what you like!

PeacockPlumage · 08/09/2013 08:00

Neither, sorry. I like Benedict though.

bananamummy · 08/09/2013 07:46

Beckett

PoppyWearer · 08/09/2013 07:33

I like Beckett.

mathanxiety · 08/09/2013 05:15

Bram
Emmett
might be alternatives. Benedict is a viable alternative too imo.

I can't choose between Beckett and Bennett - they seem a bit random as names unless there is a family connection.

Lottiedoubtie · 07/09/2013 22:05

Alan and Samuel, immediately spring to mind Grin

Seriously though I can't fathom your logic OP if Benedict is too pretentious, why do you think those choices are any better?

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 07/09/2013 21:57

It sounds like you want something modern-sounding but a bit different

What about:

Evan
Marcus
Roman
Gray
Leon
Levi

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 07/09/2013 21:54

Sorry, I also don't like surnames-as-first-names

Benedict is slightly "posher", and I also am wary of those kind of names. But it's much much better than Bennett etc

I will think of some alternatives

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 07/09/2013 21:22

Much prefer Beckett, with Beck as a short version.

TotallyPaninied · 07/09/2013 21:12

Squoosh that is exactly how I feel about it!!!

OP posts:
squoosh · 07/09/2013 21:10

I do like it though!

squoosh · 07/09/2013 21:10

In some circles Benedict would definitely be considered 'pretentious', It's not quite a mainstream name just yet is it? It makes me think of an elderly, academic monk.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2013 21:04

How on earth is Benedict pretentious? It's lovely.

TotallyPaninied · 07/09/2013 21:03

I do like benedict but I also think it's pretentious which is why I moved towards Bennett. I love the name Beck but I thought it needed to be longer- to try not to sound like a dog's name? I think I have issues :D

Out of the two, Bennett.

Although I prefer Beck as a name on its own.

How about another Ben- name?

Bentley
Benton
Benson

Bearandcub · 07/09/2013 16:19

Bennett

Saffyz · 07/09/2013 16:18

Benedict is a great suggestion. Not keen on Beckett or Bennett, as they're too surnamey.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2013 15:23

Neither. I think that they are awful, sorry.

Bramwell? / Bram?
Barnaby?
Bartholomew? / Bartie?
Blane? I don't like it but better than Beckett and Bennett, maybe?
Blake? Ditto.
Bradley? Brandon? These have a bit of a 'lovable rogue' reputation but at least they are names.

bridgetsmum · 07/09/2013 15:23

Neither, they are surnames.

LazyFaire · 07/09/2013 15:18

Beckett - Castle addict here though. And she's the female lead Grin.

Would you be shortening them? Becks or Becky? Benny for Bennett?

Leeds2 · 07/09/2013 14:43

I wouldn't choose either, tbh.
