What do you think of the name Meg, and what can it be short for?

Anyone famous called Meg? Pros and cons? It does rhyme with egg...

I have a (Welsh) Megan...but she is my dog Grin

I think Meg is a lovely name for a little girl that travels well across the age ranges.

I also call my Meg Megatiggle from time to time. Meggy, Megan, Megatiggle, Megatoolah...

Pimpf · 05/09/2013 18:29

Meg is a fab name, can be short for Megan (also a fab name) or Margaret

squoosh · 05/09/2013 17:54

Just go for Meg if that's what you love.

I always think of Meg from Little Women, she was nice but I think her husband was a bit of a bore. Not that that's relevant at all!

Winterfel · 05/09/2013 14:41

I love Megatron! :) Thanks for your input everyone!

Megan is an old name Seaweedy - never been particularly trendy in Wales. Bit like calling Margaret trendy in England.

Seaweedy · 05/09/2013 11:47

Meg is much, much nicer than Megan. I see Megan as yesterday's trendy name.

seagullsid · 05/09/2013 10:55

Love Meg! Just as it is!

Wandastartup · 05/09/2013 10:52

I have a Meg! She is Margaret but almost always known as Meg( or Meggy)

makingdoo · 05/09/2013 10:49

Meg is lovely, very pretty. Much prefer it to Megan.

Always remind me of Little Women too Smile

ShowMeTheCoffee · 05/09/2013 10:45

Meghan? The "h" softens Megan somewhat, I think. But I also think Meg by itself is very sweet, very cute.

PrincessKitKat · 05/09/2013 10:41

I love it - Our cats called Meg.

Short for Megatron Blush

I like it, wasn't it the main character in The Thorn Birds book (am I showing my age) :) I prefer Meg to Megan but would use Megan on the BC as prefer full names on same.

Indith · 05/09/2013 00:38

my Margaret tells memeg is a boring name. she does like mini meg though Grin . she is mostly a daisy, another shortening of Margaret.

I like meg but I'd give a full name on a birth certificate.

gd1976 · 05/09/2013 00:33

Love meg! Smile. It's cooler than Megan

ThisIsMummyPig · 05/09/2013 00:25

Meg is short for Margaret.

I know three Megs. They are all dogs.

Mutteroo · 05/09/2013 00:20

Meg his a beautiful name! Why not just choose this & not worry about what it's short for? DH was obsessed with having 'proper' names for our DC, but in the end they're both known by the shorter nns that I would have given them in the 1st place.

Frangepani · 04/09/2013 23:01

I like it! We have a very dear family friend christened Megan who is known to everyone as Meggie. Her Mum & Dad often call her Megs.

superlambanana · 04/09/2013 21:12

Love Meg. So many Megans around!

Littlecherublegs · 04/09/2013 19:52

Love Megan but hate Meg.

Know Meg is traditionally short for Margaret though - which I don't like either.

Meg Ryan is the only famous one I know and I remember reading 'Meg & Mog' books when I was little (think Meg was a witch).

wigglesrock · 04/09/2013 18:58

I know a few Megs - they're all Margaret. All the Margarets I know are divided between Maggie & Meg Smile

I really like it. Always reminds me of Little Women.

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/09/2013 18:48

As others have said Megan or Margaret.

Could go all out with Megora though (real name honest)

DaleyBump · 04/09/2013 18:27

Megan is lovely :)

DaleyBump · 04/09/2013 18:26

I don't like it, sorry. It reminds of of Meg from Family Guy and the whole "shut up, Meg" thing.
