What do you think of Sunny as a boy's name? I love it and we're thinking of using it, but not sure whether to spell it "Sunny" or "Sonny", I like it with a 'U' but hubby thinks it's too feminine and should be spelt with a 'O'; opinions please??? :D

Sunny is lovely for a girl, but would just look misspelt on a boy.

Sonny is awful imo. It sounds like you couldn't be bothered to think of a name and just added a bit onto son. Daughtery is also not good. I quite like D.S. for a boy though.

aladdinsane · 02/09/2013 13:29

I came across a Sunny Day once

Writerwannabe83 · 02/09/2013 13:24

I like Sonny but it has to be with an 'o'

Inflicting Sunny onto a boy is just wrong...

I like it, but has to be spelt Sonny as 'sunny' sounds like your describing the weather.

mummybare · 02/09/2013 11:59

Do you like any names it could be a nn for eg. Samson, Harrison etc.? Just to throw something else in the mix.

I quite like it with an 'o'.

GooseyLoosey · 02/09/2013 11:41

Definitely with an "o" for a boy, but not a good name for me.

squoosh · 02/09/2013 11:39

I know three boys called Sonny, the oldest of whom is about 12 or 13. I don't think it's even unusual these days, it suits the Sonnys I know.

Sunny looks very girlish.

curlew · 02/09/2013 10:56

Doesn't pass the Prime Minister test, sorry.

And just imagine being a secondary school teacher and the kids finding out.

Spindelina · 02/09/2013 10:54

I'd assume Sunny was nn for Sunil.

CockyFox · 02/09/2013 10:23

DH has a male friend named Sunny, as above it is a short form of an Asian name I have never known his full name and don't think he uses it at all.

dappleton · 02/09/2013 10:12

Sonny just makes me think Sonny & Cher!
I have heard the name Sunny a couple of times but as a shortened version of an Asian name.

5madthings · 02/09/2013 10:12

Love it, I know two Sonny's but it should be spelt with an o.

Bowlersarm · 02/09/2013 10:12

I don't like it spelt either way. Sorry op.

It just doesn't sound like a name to me. More of a noise.

I just can't imagine calling a man 'Sonny'

HappyMummyOfOne · 02/09/2013 10:10

For a baby its bearable spelt correctly but for aman its awful. Imagine his business cards in future.

Its not a name i would use as anything other than anick name and even then unlikely.

GobblersKnob · 02/09/2013 10:04

I like it, but it needs to be Sonny.

Blatherskite · 02/09/2013 10:03

I think however you spell it, everyone will assume it's spelt Sonny and you'll be forever correcting them if you choose the other spelling.

That said, it sounds more like a term of endearment than a name to me. It doesn't sound like a name for a grown up either. I can't imagine a 50 year old Sonny, he'd be more Daddy by then...

ClartyCarol · 02/09/2013 10:01

Definitely use Sonny spelling. Sunny to me is an elderly woman with huuuuuge glasses.

KatyPutTheCuttleOn · 02/09/2013 10:00

Sunny Delight Grin

LEMisdisappointed · 02/09/2013 09:59

oh actually scrap that last post - lucy is name of the day Grin

DowntonTrout · 02/09/2013 09:55

I know two boys called Sonny.

I think you are setting up problems with Sunny as you will forever be explaining how to spell it.

curlew · 02/09/2013 09:53

Oh, please don't. Remember you're naming a man, not a baby or a toddler. As someone on here once said, you might as well call him YoungFellerMeLad. Or Chummy.

MortifiedAdams · 02/09/2013 09:53

Should be Sonny.

bridgetsmum · 02/09/2013 09:51

I HATE it, sounds silly to me
Sorry Hmm

MerryMarigold · 02/09/2013 09:50

I know a Sunny, but she's a girl.
