Thoughts on Crispin?

Is it too wet?
I'm quite liking it at the moment - means curly haired, and all my DSs have curly hair. (Knowing my luck if I name this baby Crispin it will have the straightest hair ever though.)

So, Crispin? Yes or No?

It also makes me think of the Longpigs
It's definitely a posh / wet name though imo, so I wouldn't, personally.

ditsydoll · 03/09/2013 22:53

If I met someone called Crispin I might giggle a little.. sorry

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 03/09/2013 22:20

I knew a really cool, very nice Crispin when I was a teenager - nearly 30 years ago. Have never met another since. He wasn't wet at all so I don't see it that way. It's a good name IMHO.

hawkmcqueen · 02/09/2013 20:35

Just my opinion but it's the type of name a female picks for a male but a male wouldn't pick for himself iykwim. I suppose it might sound feminine in a way. Okay, so you probably summed it all up in one word - wet.

bluecheque4595 · 02/09/2013 20:23

It might make people quote Henry V.

"And rouse him at the name of Crispian."

Or it might remind people of the detective fiction writer Edmund Crispin. Or possibly nobody has heard of him. I will get me coat.

I think it's a lovely name but that's just me.

NotWilliamBoyd · 02/09/2013 20:23

Hmm I've met 2 Crispins, 1 is always now known by the nn 'Rice' and the other is 'Walkers'........

evamummy · 02/09/2013 20:16

Crispin and Tarquin are not that nice imo.

But Martin, Robin, Quentin and other -in names are perfectly fine imo. Justin maybe not though Grin.

mrstowers · 02/09/2013 19:10

Yep wet!

Saffyz · 02/09/2013 18:56

Crispin, Quentin and Tarquin are all similar in style. Boys names ending with "in" often sound wet IMHO.

evamummy · 02/09/2013 06:54

Crispin is a name I've not heard before but it sounds odd, like crisps. Although is it that different than Christopher/Chris?

Quentin, on the other hand, is a great name, and widely used. Makes me think of Quentin Blake, Quentin Tarantino and an increasing number of Quentins in our school. Much nicer and cooler than Crispin imo!

ZingWantsCake · 02/09/2013 03:47

Hugh Dennis being Dr Crispin in My Hero is what comes to mind.
he is a brilliant actor (IMO) which is why his character's behaviour was so cringe-worthy.

based on that and the fact that I don't like the name Crispin it's a no from me.
a BFN indeed. sorry

LovelyMarchHare · 02/09/2013 02:54

Makes me think of 'Crisp n Dry' (is that still about?)

Marylou2 · 02/09/2013 02:07

If you can protect your child with wealth, privilege and a private education by all means call him Crispin. But otherwise maybe not, for his own sake?

LeoandBoosmum · 01/09/2013 22:41

No :(

ICutMyFootOnOccamsRazor · 01/09/2013 15:50

I know a few Crispins. Although none of them are wet in the slightest, I think it's a pretty awful name, sorry.

zingally · 01/09/2013 15:45

Crispin is the name of a psychiatric hospital near me. So round here it's associated with people who are... less than stable.

snozzlemaid · 31/08/2013 16:40

Richard Armitage's middle name.

Sadie204 · 31/08/2013 16:37

Really don't like Crispin, although strangely quite fond of Caspian/Caspar which are quite similar.

Ok, so it is wet. I shall cede to MN wisdom, and the fact that DH laughed when I suggested it.
I do like Quentin though JamieMagic Torch - if #5 is a boy DH really wants to use it, although maybe only as a middle name.

English think I'm the only other person on MN who knows Crispin Hunt! ;) loved the Longpigs back in '96 hate all that landfill indie now

ShadowSummer · 30/08/2013 00:00

It makes me think about eating crisps.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2013 17:36

No. Sorry but it's awful.

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/08/2013 17:34

It's an elderly judges name.

Quite a few of them where I live.

I don't think it translates well to 2013 though. Cecil is like that too.

Leeds2 · 29/08/2013 14:58

Would not be my choice. Very wet.
