I'm in Bristol if that makes any difference to opinions on Osian.

I know an adult Ossian and he pronounces it 'Oss-ee-an' His mother was Welsh, too.

SixPackWellies · 02/09/2013 15:21

Love both, but love Rowan for a girl, not a boy wierdly. same name I know!

OverTheFieldsAndFarAway · 31/08/2013 23:56

IMO ;)

OverTheFieldsAndFarAway · 31/08/2013 23:54

Rowan Atkinson
Dr. Rowan Williams
Both men
Rowen for a girl
Short for Rowenna

It's a boys name

massistar · 29/08/2013 16:00

Rowan spelled like that sounds more like a girl's name to me.. How about Roan?

Laquila · 29/08/2013 01:45

Rowan is on my list - I think it's lovely - but Osian I'm not so sure on. I would have pronounced it OSS-ian until told otherwise! Grin

kiwik · 28/08/2013 22:44

Osian, although I prefer the Irish version Oisin.

Saffyz · 28/08/2013 22:38

Osian

Iwantacat · 28/08/2013 22:15

100% correct squoosh Smile

prettypeas · 28/08/2013 22:12

Yes squoosh.

So it's pronounced Osh(to rhyme with gosh) An(to rhyme with man)?

Iwantacat · 28/08/2013 21:25

I love Osian but please if you give DS that name you must try to pronounce the name like us welsh do....otherwise people will think you've named him Ocean!

Froblawd · 28/08/2013 20:35

Love Osian

prettypeas · 28/08/2013 08:20

Leaning towards Osian. ... But am I brave enough! ?Thanks for all opinions.

No offence but all this "only use it in Wales" is bollocks. Britain is multicultural. If we only used "English" names we'd have been stuck Aethelstan hundreds of years ago. Is it really that hard for people to get to grips with an unfamiliar name? Really?

BlueStarsAtNight · 28/08/2013 07:42

Definitely Rowan. I'd only use Osian if you're in Wales.

highlandbird · 27/08/2013 22:19

Love osian, it's a fairly common name in Wales and its easy enough to pronounce.
Love rowan too, but all 3 I know are girls!

OverTheFieldsAndFarAway · 27/08/2013 22:14

Both are lovely but Rowan is the best. Slightly biased as I have a Rowan....and Osian is pronounced Osh-An....I'm welsh so allowed to say...

Chee · 27/08/2013 22:08

Osian (Osh-an) is a lovely name. I know of one, friends shorten it to Osh.

Turniptwirl · 27/08/2013 20:53

Rowan

SleepyCatOnTheMat · 27/08/2013 19:58

For what it's worth, I'd have thought Osian was pronounced oss-see-an, with the same emphasis as in Julian (and I'd have thought the correct spelling was Ossian). I would only use if you are in Wales, and/or are prepared for a lifetime of correcting people's pronunciation. Rowan is lovely.

lililon · 27/08/2013 19:16

Osian is a fab name. I know several as I'm Welsh and live in Wales - they are all lovely boys.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/08/2013 18:47

Osian.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 27/08/2013 15:47

Osian is lovely.

You might get people thinking you're spelling Ocean "creatively" though.
