Jetta for a girl?

jbakedbean · 27/08/2013 00:44

Just found out from logging on to mums net tat the name we did have picked out as a front runner has had the curse of Katie price calling her son a similar name so now I think we need to change tack.

Just in case though what do my fellow mums betters think of jetta for a girl?

Never heard of the car myself. If you like the name, use it.

Madamecastafiore · 27/08/2013 07:48

Prefer Polo or Golf myself.

MichaelBubleBath · 27/08/2013 07:46

No nothing about cars.
Did think of Clifford though cos Jetta - mac's owner - is a showy-offy character without many redeeming features.

i like the name though Wink

Eastpoint · 27/08/2013 07:39

When it's a Scandinavian name it's pronounced 'Yetta', the same way they pronounce 'Jan' as 'Yan'. I automatically think 'Yetta', not the car but that is not the association you are looking for.

MissStrawberry · 27/08/2013 07:36

She had a boy. You are naming a girl. Confused. Really horrible name for a child and she would be teased the whole time. Why on Earth would anyone look to Jordan as a role model for name choices Hmm.

Jetta is a car and it is not an ugly one Hmm.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 27/08/2013 07:34

Ugly car. Scirocco though, that has a ring :)

CoffeeTea103 · 27/08/2013 07:24

A horrible name. Sounds too rough for a girl

stripeygreensocks · 27/08/2013 07:18

I didnt know it was a car, I thought to Clifford the dog too though.

I like jade

Queazy · 27/08/2013 07:15

p.s. isn't Jet the gemstone? I'd probably go with something like Amber or Jade as strong gem-like names xx

Queazy · 27/08/2013 07:12

I don't know about the Clifford the dog references and have never heard of the car (ignorant, I know!) but I think it's a beautiful name. It's not the same name as used by Katie Price either, so no problem.

I'd probably suggest using the spelling Jette for a girl. She'll end up spelling this name out quite a bit anyway, but at least it's not the same spelling as the car! There are plenty of Kier's around, pronounced the same as the Ford Kia and no one seems too fussed.

xx

Boring car. Like being called Civic or 205.

glastocat · 27/08/2013 04:14

Ugly car.

RoadToTuapeka · 27/08/2013 04:08

Maybe it does mean something nice but it sounds silly and made up imo. Maybe change your own name if you like an out there name so much rather than inflict a child with it!

MrsMongoose · 27/08/2013 03:00

If you are after an 'out there" stone name, maybe Onyx? Saw a lady called this on TV, and I haven't ever forgotten her!

gotadifferentnamenow · 27/08/2013 02:55

It's a car, sorry.

What about Isis?

StayAwayFromTheEdge · 27/08/2013 02:38

It's awful and in no way matches the lovely names your other two children have.

Why the insistence on the JP initials?

nooka · 27/08/2013 02:05

If you want people to associate your potential dd's name with 'strong beautiful, independent woman' then I really don't think that Jetta is going to work. Clearly most people associate it with a fairly boring (but fuel efficient) car.

To be honest I think that you will struggle to find any name that has the same association for everyone, but I think I would start by thinking about women (real or fictional) you think have the values you are looking to emulate and consider their names.

If your other children are called Sebastian (Seb) and Maximilian (Max) then Jetta really really doesn't seem to me to 'go' at all.

jbakedbean · 27/08/2013 01:50

Yes, I think it's origin is Scandinavian or Danish. Interesting point of what it resembles over here.

Frikadellen · 27/08/2013 01:29

Fairly common Scandinavian name I dont hate it (my mother is Jette) but I liken it to names like Jane and Anne plain and pretty boring.

trolleycoin · 27/08/2013 01:21

Well known car. Might as well go with Passat. No names inspiring images of strong independent beautiful woman springs to mind at the moment though.

Rummikub · 27/08/2013 01:20

Buy everyone the Clifford big red dog DVD. I don't think car, I think the little girl character in the DVD. Probably will get shortened to jet?

escorpion · 27/08/2013 01:20

What about Ebony?

NapaCab · 27/08/2013 01:19

No, I'd go with Mondeo or Passat.

jbakedbean · 27/08/2013 01:16

Lol, I think I might have to get dp to read this, his heart is set on it yet I'm open, see the max and seb baby sister question. Bizarrely my man is a car enthusiast but thinks the jetta link won't get made.

Almost everyone who mentioned it so far named the car, it's a car.
A rotten ugly car
