Looking for a Spanish, Latin name for dd. Which of the three names is best? Do you like any of these?

Aviana is, unsurprisingly, an airline.
Alba means "white" in Romanian, which is quite pretty.

ch1134 · 01/09/2013 14:15

Alba is a common girl's name for dawn in Spain (there are various ways of saying 'daybreak' in Spanish but Alba is the one used for a name).
Aviana does indeed sound like it comes from a bird, but not in a good way.
Laura I have only ever seen spelt like this and also is very popular in Spain.

PoppyAmex · 01/09/2013 14:05

I've never heard the name Aviana in Spain.

Sounds like bird flu or an airline.

It's spelled Laura in Spanish.

picnicbasketcase · 01/09/2013 13:59

I like Luisa most out of your choices. I thought dawn in Spanish was Aurora?

ch1134 · 01/09/2013 13:57

Luisa

Turniptwirl · 27/08/2013 20:55

I know a Luisa and that's my choice out of your names. My favourite Spanish name that I know of it Catalina

JustBecauseICan · 27/08/2013 18:53

Alba is very old lady in Italy, short for Rosalba.

I prefer Luisa.

Have never heard of Aviana or Laoura. (although the latter looks like Aldi branding Grin)

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/08/2013 18:50

Alba is the nicest.

OrlaNuttin · 27/08/2013 17:55

Alba is lovely. I taught an Alba and she was a beautiful character, have very positive associations with the name.

Luisa I like, but you will get Louisa, and the slightly different pronunciation.

Aviana sounds to me like someone liked 3 or 4 names, couldn't choose between them so smooshed them together to form one giant name. Sorry!

Laura with the Spanish pronoun is very pretty.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 27/08/2013 17:38

Alba is lovely

I also like Luisa

I also love:

Anita
Juanita

hetsto · 27/08/2013 16:31

Alba is lovely! It reminds me of the little girl in 'The Timetraveller's Wife', which is a brilliant book.

April13 · 27/08/2013 15:50

Alba is also Gaelic for Scotland....

jemimastar · 27/08/2013 15:03

Alba

noodlebum · 27/08/2013 14:04

Luisa is lovely!

How do you pronounce laoura?

I like the a names best - dont like luisa

Umlauf · 27/08/2013 08:28

Are you sure laoura is Spanish? I live in Spain and have only ever seen it spelt Laura but pronounced Lao rah.

JacqueslePeacock · 27/08/2013 00:56

Are you the same person as FirstTimeMom12, or are there really two pele considering Laoura today? Confused

Fraxinus · 27/08/2013 00:20

Alba

FeijoaVodkaStat · 27/08/2013 00:11

Alba.

NadiaWadia · 27/08/2013 00:04

Luisa.

Maud2011 · 27/08/2013 00:03

Luisa and Alba are both lovely. Aviana suggests bird flu - as Umlauf pointed out - and airlines.

Not keen on Laoura; to me it just looks like Laura spelt wrong. I suppose one could argue the same thing of Luisa but I think it's elegant and pretty.

Mehrida · 25/08/2013 20:46

Alba is also gaelic for Scotland which is why I like it, but not for particularly Spanish reasons!

CruCru · 25/08/2013 15:37

I like Alba. Everyone will know how to spell and pronounce it. Luisa gets corrected to Louisa by my phone - that's how everyone will spell it.

BabyBrainMom · 25/08/2013 11:09

My favorite is Aviana, but DH likes it the least, as it is the least Spanish, he like Alba and now says Laoura. Which is best Alba or Laoura or even Luisa??
