I'm afraid it sounds faintly medical to me (lochia alba, candida albicans, linea alba), but then I've known a couple of Candidas who got away with it.

JollyHappyGiant · 26/08/2013 06:30

I love it, but DH vetoed :(

AberdeenAngusina · 26/08/2013 06:24

I met a little Alba, I think she was Italian. I commented on what a lovely name it was, and her mother said that several Scots had commented favourably!

delilah89 · 24/08/2013 21:41

No, really not nice!

beedles17 · 24/08/2013 21:39

I just think of the VCR in the spare room!

  • adds to ever growing list of girls names.

I thought of Time Traveler's Wife too. The little girl is a lovely part of that book as she also had special powers. Go for it!

ch1134 · 23/08/2013 14:30

Alba is a popular name in Spain - it means Dawn

Saffyz · 23/08/2013 12:19

I like it.

squoosh · 23/08/2013 12:13

Cheap electrical goods brand.

And it looks so...............bulbous. Don't do it.

Sleepathon · 23/08/2013 07:49

It is a beautiful name

MintyDiamonds · 23/08/2013 07:46

I love it, it's beautiful. It's used quite often in Spain, it means Dawn.

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/08/2013 01:46

I like it. Though it really depends on the surname.

Gareth Bale's daughter is named it and it really just doesn't work with the surname imo.

TerraNotSoFirma · 23/08/2013 00:05

I love the name Alba. Gorgeous.

WafflyVersatile · 22/08/2013 23:55

My Alba walkman lasted fine! Angry

noblegiraffe · 22/08/2013 21:44

It was the cheap brand in Argos. If your Walkman was an Alba, you knew it wouldn't last.

I LOVE this name, I was introduced to a girl called Alba and the name really struck me and sounded beautiful :-)

Weegiemum · 22/08/2013 21:28

Yes, my dc speak Gaelic. Alba (pronounced "all-a-ba") is Gaelic for Scotland. Also Italian for "white" I think.

nkf · 22/08/2013 21:26

S'okay. I like Alma more.

gininteacupsandleavesonthelawn · 22/08/2013 21:25

It's one of my favourite books too...

gininteacupsandleavesonthelawn · 22/08/2013 21:24

I Love it! It's one of my favourite names ever, however we live in scotland and its also a brand of cheap radios :( not ure if they even exist anymore but it was vetoed on that basis.

rosyryan · 22/08/2013 21:17

Beautiful. Just lovely.

WafflyVersatile · 22/08/2013 21:11

I know it from The House of The Spirits by Isabelle Allende. It's Latin for white and Spanish for Dawn IIRC. Her mum was called Blanca and her mum Clara.

Chibbs · 22/08/2013 21:06

OP! that is my favourite book ever and what i planned to call any DD of mine!
