I think it's lovely. I semi-considered it for DD1, but DH didn't like it (he's very fussy though). It means something like "loveable", doesn't it?

But I guess the first few comments would be the reactions the poor girl would get... and whenever she wrote it, it would be misread as Annabel.

There is a lady amabel Lindsay who lives just outside hungerford, I think it is a pretty name but I guess i am in the minority

I knew an Amabel who would now be about 40. I think it's pretty. Once we were corrected the first time, we never forgot it Grin.

I know an Ama and I love the name. But the family are Ghanaian and it's a traditional name there for a girl born on a certain day of the week.

Amabel....hmmm. Don't think so, sorry.

It looks like a misspelling and sounds like someone asking if they're pretty (Am I Bell?).

If said in my hometown accent, it would sound like lazy speaking - particularly as it would go Ama - bewl.

Are you on the south coast? What accent would it be said in?

Nope, sorry - a lifetime of getting it spelled wrong and mispronounced. Annabel is lovely though.
