I like it, but think it might be too frilly?

What do you think?

I have a Polly, so obviously I love it!

I think it has character and is unusual enough to stand out from all the more popular 'olly/elly/illy' type names, even if people do tend to hear 'Holly' when she tells them her name Hmm.

We've never met another child with the same name, and even in her primary school of 600+ pupils everyone knows who Polly is.

Not for a birth certificate, sorry. Great as a NN, though.

AndyMurraysBalls · 18/08/2013 18:27

It's a very personal thing but I find any girls' name ending in "ie" or "y" to sound a bit cutesey.

There are a few too many Daisy-Mays and Evie-Joys about for my taste.

I like a name with bollocks. Like mine.

Nagoo · 18/08/2013 18:19

I love it. It's on my LOVE IT list :o

Not frilly at all. Beautiful name. I have a Polly and she loves her name and there isn't another in her school which makes her feel really special.

RooRooTaToot · 17/08/2013 09:11

I really like Polly. It's pretty and not too frilly. Similar to Molly, Milly, Daisy etc. Also quite uncommon at the moment.

Sarahmains40 · 16/08/2013 20:45

I like it and find it less frilly than Milly and Molly.

But in my 11 year old daughter's class there is a Holly, a MOlly and a Polly! the teacher must love that!

I might choose Paloma and Penelope and use a nn Polly. Or if you have any Italian ancestry or connection, what about Paola?

leobear · 16/08/2013 18:07

Is it actually a real name? I thought it was traditionally a diminutive of Mary-Anne.

Bowlersarm · 15/08/2013 18:33

Polly is great. I have two adult friends called Polly and it is not frilly IMO.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 15/08/2013 18:29

Not frilly but cutsie

Biscuitsneeded · 15/08/2013 18:14

I love Polly.

Caip · 14/08/2013 13:16

I love the name Polly

telsa · 14/08/2013 13:14

Not frilly at all. Frilly is Melissa or Arabella or Frillina.

Rhubarbgarden · 14/08/2013 13:13

I think you need more than two syllables to be frilly.

squoosh · 14/08/2013 12:59

I agree with Fingers, Polly is old fashioned girlie rather than full on frilly.

Arabella, Emmeline and Mirabelle are names that I would classify as being frilly.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 14/08/2013 12:53

I love the name Polly and I definitely would not put it in the filly category!

Frilly to me is Isabella, Araminta, Seraphina!

thatwasadaftidea · 14/08/2013 12:35

toooooooo obviously.
