Could I garner opinions on these names? Due quite soon - just cannot decide! Looking for classy, not too popular, usual drill Wink

Matilda is great. I have a 4 year old relative who wears this name well. Don't know any others.
Claudia is very nice.
Tamara I'm on the fence - I much prefer Tamsin.
Clara seems clunky.
Eliza is meh - Elizabeth for lazy namers ;)
Tabitha - MN loves it, but I really can't stand it.
Eloise - it's nice. I prefer Louisa.

jessjessjess · 17/08/2013 05:24

I like Tamara as well. I also like Clara, Matilda (nn Tilly) and Tabitha.

Really dislike Eloise but seem to be in a minority.

Frontdoorstep · 16/08/2013 20:23

I seem to differ from your other replies because my favourite on your list is Tamara. I would nn Tammy, which I like even more than Tamara. I don't usually go for nn's either.

However, all your names are nice.

DalmationDots · 16/08/2013 15:57

Clara quite nice and unusual at the moment but still classy and nice
Claudia I like this
Eliza personally don't like but nothing wrong with it. Know lots of very spoilt/bossy little eliza/eliz/elise (but I know that is a huge over generalisation!)
Eloise not for me
Matilda love, quite popular at the moment but that doesn't really matter
Tabitha really dislike
Tamara not keen

mumtobealloveragain · 16/08/2013 15:51

Matilda and Eloise are lovely! - two names that are on our shortlist too! :)

However, if you've seen the film "Leon" like we have (DP and I love that film) it always makes us say "This one... is for.. Matilda!"

MrsBungle · 16/08/2013 15:31

I LOVE Clara, I really like Claudia. I don't like the others.

FiddleDeeDees · 16/08/2013 15:30

Have a one year old Claudia so I'm biased...but it's a gorgeous name and I have never regretted choosing it...

I also love Eliza.

The others are nice too...you must have good taste Smile

trinitybleu · 13/08/2013 22:49

like them all, love Tabitha as I have one (nn T, no Tabby or Tabs here!) but think Matilda is pretty popular.

OutragedFromLeeds · 13/08/2013 22:34

Clara - love
Claudia - hate, for no reason, I just hate it!
Eliza- ok
Eloise - a bit meh imo
Matilda - quite nice, but I know quite a few
Tabitha - I know a few, tends to be shortened to Tabs, which is awful imo.
Tamara - Tamara you're only a day aahhh waaaayyyyy

natandmat · 13/08/2013 22:26

I have a Matilda who is 4, I don't know another single one! And I'm a teacher, never come across one!

meditrina · 13/08/2013 22:18

I think they're all lovely (except Claudia).

Have you considered having a large family?

LauraChant · 13/08/2013 22:12

In terms of popularity I know one baby Tabitha and no young children by any of the other names, I know a Matilda in her teens. Am from East Anglia.

aufaniae · 13/08/2013 22:05

I love Eloise, Eliza, Matilda.

Tabitha's nice.

Not so keen on Tamara, Claudia, Clara

quertas · 13/08/2013 22:03

I have an Eliza so I'm biased Grin

SoftSheen · 13/08/2013 22:01

Eliza!

jellybeans · 13/08/2013 22:00

Clara, Eloise, Matilda, Tabitha, all lovely

MummyBeerest · 13/08/2013 21:58

I love Clara. She was a close contender for my DD. Matilda is cute but classic to me. I like Tabitha too...it sounds almost mystical.

I knew one Claudia and she was gorgeous. She was like my first girl-crush.

Tamara all depends on how you pronounce it. Tam-ah-ra sounds nice, Tah-mare-a sounds yuck.

I don't love Eliza. It's just meh to me.

Eloise was a lunch lady at my school. She smelled like corn.

Disclaimer: just my opinion

Kezztrel · 13/08/2013 21:50

The Matilda I know has just been born :)

Kezztrel · 13/08/2013 21:49

OP I know one Matilda and no Tabithas but was just going by their popularity on here - not quite the same as RL I guess.

riskit4abiskit · 13/08/2013 19:58

I wondered that about matilda - I like it to and it didn't seem popular on 'the list' but is often mentioned on this forum.

how many matildas do you know (of any age?) I know none, and i'm a teacher in the north.

Writerwannabe83 · 13/08/2013 19:36

I think Claudia is lovely Smile

Manoodledo · 13/08/2013 19:14

Like Clara and Matilda best.

PeriodMath · 13/08/2013 19:03

Kezztrel, are Matilda and Tabitha "mega popular" as you say? Matilda was around 50 on yesterday's ONS list and Tabitha wasn't even on it.

OP posts:
MoonHare · 13/08/2013 16:33

'Dumpy' that's exactly what I think too Kezztrel!

TenthMuse · 13/08/2013 16:32

Favourite is Tabitha, closely followed by Claudia and Clara. Would be slightly put off by the meaning of Claudia, but this may not bother you.

Really like Eliza and Matilda too, but they're both very trendy at the moment. Eloise is fine but a bit meh compared to the others. Only one I dislike is Tamara - all Tamaras seem to be vacuous socialites!
