presumably not the same one!

Mrsoakenshield - yes I'd just stuck to 'British' in my list cos they are ones I can gauge as probably 'rare' rather than just my ignorance iyswim! But I could have put one of the African ones on your own list. Would be intrigued to see equivalent lists from other backgrounds!

MrsOakensheild - Yes, I've only know one Diddy, Hyacinth or Precious. I know at least the last one in common in some countries so I didn't list them even though I've only known one.

are you talking about just British names? Because I was at school with a lot of Indian and African girls and so have only ever heard of one:

but they could be two a penny in Lagos or Dehli for all I know!

I have only ever known one Sharon, which given I'm a seventies girl is surprising.

I live and work in uber liberal middle class Guardianista land so just about every name is unique, especially in DD's nursery (though amusingly she is also the only one with her name, and she has a name which always comes up on baby names threads as one you absolutely shouldn't give your child as it's so popular, so everyone round my way has steered clear of it, hence she's just as unique as everyone else!).

My absolute favourite, though, is Aslan.
