I am well aware that both come high on the pretentious name scale. Middle name will be May after my granny. She'll have 3 older brothers.

I'm more concerned about " like in Harry potter" comments or being called "perse phone"

Which do you prefer and why?

Ah, well boys are fab. What will you call him?

Oriunda · 10/08/2013 23:20

I love Persephone (my favourite Greek myth) and if DS had been DD, she would have been called Persephone.

notanyanymore · 10/08/2013 21:11

Persephone definately!

stickortwist · 10/08/2013 21:09

Well I had a scan today and hermione/ persephone has a penis so back to the drawing board.
This is definitely last baby so I'm destined to be a mum to boys only! But thanks to everyone's ideas I think we'd have used herminone :)

Hermione is a relation of mine I'm so sorry she gets called Ermine

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/08/2013 15:18

I love Hermione.

Also like Persephone but hate the meaning.

Same with Antigone.

SmallOrangeGiraffe · 09/08/2013 21:30

We named our Daughter Persephonie (altered spelling slightly to help with pronunciation, her nn is Sephie.

Love it, have never met another one so far :o)

BabyClam · 09/08/2013 20:37

I love Persephone, it was my name of choice for PFB, now DS. DH vetoed it though.
Percy for short. Like in Upstairs Downstairs.

Longdistance · 09/08/2013 20:22

Persephone sounds like a disease.

I like Hermione though.

hardtostayfocused · 09/08/2013 20:18

I love both these names - both big faves when I was a kid (for my imaginary siblings Blush) along with Athene.

Sorry, I definitely think Hermione and HP are inextricably intertwined for a good few years yet, so unless you don't mind people assuming you called your DD after That Hermione, I'd go for Persephone.

I also loved the name Adeline fwiw...

WishYouWereMine · 09/08/2013 20:12

I have a Persephone May. Therefore it rocks. She's always been Sephy though. The looks I get when it's called out in docs surgery or chemist are a bit hard to live with. On the other hand I had an amazing English teacher whose first name was hermione. I love them both.

MrsOakenshield · 09/08/2013 20:09

ooh, I don't like the nicknames. Just Persephone. Maybe Seph when she's a cool teenager. I think she'd be quite gothy.

What about Serafina?

WeAll · 09/08/2013 20:07

I love Persephone. Sephy or Percy, great nns.

RiceorChips · 09/08/2013 20:04

Hermione.

Really don't like Persephone.

Saffyz · 09/08/2013 19:25

Hermione

Hulababy · 09/08/2013 19:14

I like both and infact both are my Dd's favourite names - she claims she is going to have twins named these!

Hermione - at least now everyone can pronounce it thanks to HP and it isn't like the character is a bad one either, infact quite the opposite

Persephone - like this and the nickname sephy. i think most people could pronounce it and certainly after first time of being told.

NoComet · 09/08/2013 19:02

I like them both, but I can't spell Persephone, my dyslexic brain tries to turn it into periscope.

Nicknamegrief · 09/08/2013 19:00

Hermione.

I don't think Harry Potter every time I hear the name Harry.

However don't do it if you have a Harry, IMO.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 09/08/2013 18:59

Didn't something awful happen to Persephone? I wouldn't.

CruCru · 09/08/2013 18:54

I like Persephone better (Percy for short). However, will it bug you if people don't pronounce it?

NameoftheRose · 09/08/2013 17:08

Persephone and Hermione are both good with May.

How about Athene?

MrsOakenshield · 09/08/2013 17:03

Persephone May is quite cool. Hermione is nice but too closely linked to Harry Potter.

TSSDNCOP · 09/08/2013 16:39

Persephone

LOVE.IT.

lloydlf76 · 09/08/2013 16:37

I have a daughter called Hermione Margaret May. We've had nothing but positive comments about it. Yes you get HP associations but not so many that its annoying and personally I love HP and think the Hermione character is a great role model.

burberryqueen · 09/08/2013 16:33

oh shame - love those names - i suppose you would either have people saying Anti-gone or going arf arf at the Oedipus thing.
