Can't agree on a single boy's name...

DH and I agreed on a girl's name weeks ago but are having a hopeless time with boys names. DH is quite traditional with names but all his suggestions are really popular around our way: Henry, Harry, Jacob, William etc.

I really hate the idea that my child could be in a class with three other kids with the same name. Any ideas for names that are not overused but not weird and too outlandish?

DH and I could only agree on one boys name when I was pg with DS1. We didn't know what we were having a boy and had a huge list of agreed girls names. We had a boy and used the one name we agreed on.

Whilst I was in labour with DS2 (we didn't know he was a boy) I was screaming at DH that we couldn't agree on a single name and we had to decide in case it was a boy. We still couldn't agree. However, soon after he was born I went for a bath and left DH holding him. I walked back in the room and he said a name to me. We had never discussed this name. I will never forget the proud look on DH's face when he said the name and it just felt right.

I actually think it is easier in a way when they are born. You are putting a name to a person and it is so much more real. A shortlist never hurts though!

I love Theodore, but DH was having none of it. Quite traditional and nice, though Theo is becoming popular. But that could be nice, you could go for Ted if he wants to stand out or Theo if he decides he wants to blend in.

We've got a Franklin, he was almost Vincent or Victor, perhaps those are all a bit too out there.

I also like Elliott, Hugh/Hugo, Lucas, Max.

Actually, I love Ivan and similar names such as Ivor, Evan, Ewan, Owen etc but I'm not sure DH will go for it. (Grrrr)

Robert is going to be the middle name, after my Dad...

Angus, Sebastian, Peter, Ivan, Christopher, Hector, Rupert, Hugh, Rollo, Richard, Nicholas.

Are any of these tempting you? What are your tastes? If you could have your choice what would it be? Have you got a middle name you want to use as that may influence the first name too.

Finn is my fave boys name... I have one but dh likes more traditional names so hes called finley but everyone calls him finn

Oscar is good too but getting very popular too. Boys names are really hard. There are 3 georges in ds2 class!
