Can't agree on a single boy's name...

DH and I agreed on a girl's name weeks ago but are having a hopeless time with boys names. DH is quite traditional with names but all his suggestions are really popular around our way: Henry, Harry, Jacob, William etc.

I really hate the idea that my child could be in a class with three other kids with the same name. Any ideas for names that are not overused but not weird and too outlandish?

I feel your pain. DH vetoed many of my choices and in the end we went for a name that we both 'liked'

Rory, Leo, Arthur?

Best of luck.

I'm due in 3 weeks and DS2 will be Stanley. DH came up with it as I wanted a traditional name but not that popular holy grail

The others on our list were Charles, Benedict (I teach Shakespeare lol) and Jeffrey.

My favourite boys name which DP never let me have is Jasper. I think its lovely.

Good luck on finding a name for your LO x

Frank is a bit of a marmite name for me - not really sure if I love it or hate it at the moment. Will keep it on the list for now.

Frank?

Alex was on my shortlist but a very close friend had a baby two weeks ago and called it Alex, not sure if it's the done thing to use the same name for my child.....

I like the same kind of names as you, what about Aidan / Haydn. I love these but DH's best friend got there first!

Or Alex? I don't think that's as popular as it used to be.

Lawrence is my all-time favourite boys' name. I adore it. DH's response to it is "No. I knew a Lawrence once and he was a tw@t." (Cue me beating my head off the table in frustration - what can you do??)

Thanks for taking time to offer all these suggestions - appreciate it.

Went through some of the (excellent) suggestions with DH and got nowhere (sigh.) Hope this child turns out to be a girl because it's going to end up being called 'it' or 'thingy' at this rate.....

If you like Daniel what about Samuel? They have a similar feel I think.

MrsPatMustard · 08/08/2013 20:37

I'm definitely going to add Victor and Elliott to the list. DC already has cousins called David, Daniel, Ben and Joseph - so all those options are out. Which is a shame because I've always loved Daniel....

Elliott is my favourite boys name. Also like Benedict, James (popular though), Dominic, Christopher, Adam,

Playdoughcaterpillar · 08/08/2013 20:32

Alistair?

BNmum · 08/08/2013 20:26

I almost added Robert to the list! I like your taste and Robert will go with most of your list maybe not as well with Ivor Robert as they roll into one abit but certainly the others.

Surely DH can't argue with those names, they're nice normal traditional (welsh) names.

Others along that line: Owain, Dai, Dewi, Dylan, Edwyn, Ellis, Emrys, Gethin, Huw, Iago, Ifor or have I gone too far this time?

Mycatistoosexy · 08/08/2013 20:25

Thomas?
