I once taught a class with 2 sophies, a sophy and a Sofia in it - bit confusing all round

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/08/2013 20:31

I prefer Sophia. I think Sophie is a little bland.

It's a name that transcends all social and economic boundaries, so that's a positive................but.................in my world, it's so common that you may as well name your daughter 'girl'.

WideScreenViper · 08/08/2013 20:21

Popular in the classic, suit any age any background sense not "common". This will make it meh for some but useful for others.

EuphemiaLennox · 08/08/2013 20:18

Neither.

Soft and drippy.

TwasBrillig · 08/08/2013 20:10

Sophia is more popular in my circle of friends, I prefer Sophie.

Ginghamcurtains · 08/08/2013 20:08

Or so popular that it has become 'common' in the negative sense?

OP posts:
Ginghamcurtains · 08/08/2013 20:07

So a 'strong' name then?

GirlWithTheDirtyShirt · 08/08/2013 20:04

Meh. Very popular though.

MasterFlea · 08/08/2013 20:03

Simple and smart.

lljkk · 08/08/2013 19:59

Simple & smart! Think Sophie in The BFG.

IrisWildthyme · 08/08/2013 19:56

I love it. It's a strong female name that isn't just a feminisation of a boy name and also isn't cute or floral. It's one of a very very short list of girl names I actually like!

WideScreenViper · 08/08/2013 19:55

Both Smile. It is popular for a reason.

emmelinelucas · 08/08/2013 19:54

Simple and smart. I would say it was pretty, rather than frilly.

Mollie272 · 08/08/2013 19:54

I quite like Sophie and don't think it's frilly or bland, but it's really common where I live.

Fancies40Winks · 08/08/2013 19:53

It means Wisdom. It's pretty but not cutesy. I love it.
