How popular is Albie/ Albert now?

Thinking about using this name for my first baby due in 3 months... it has family connections and love the NN Albie :-)

I know that Arthur's getting more popular - is Albert too? Just curious as to whether there may be a few around over the next few years :-)

It's a bit too old man for me but Albie is much better than Bertie.

I have an Albie also 3 in Feb! I've only had positive responses and never had the Alfie confusion. Although my mum does sometimes call him Aldi..

We know quite a few little Albies (and Archies, Berties, Alfies, etc) and I do think it is quite a 'fashionable' name at the moment. Personally I'm not that keen on cutesy names.

Albie, Archie & Artie are all very trendy at the moment. They may sound dated as grey fall out of favour again.

I know of one who is aged 3. He never gets called anything other than Albert - which to me is a good thing as Im not keen on Albie or Bertie.

We were going to go for Albert with DS1, but went for Arthur instead. Still think its a fab name and LOVE Bert as a nn.

I have an Albie!! (Albert) born Feb 2011. Albert was my Grandad's name otherwise I would have prob just christened him Albie..... I love it and have only ever received positive reactions. I thought he would be the only one for sure but when he started pre-school 4 weeks ago there was another Albie also Albert!

I do sometimes call him Bertie as a little nickname...

I SAY GO FOR IT!! You're never going to please everyone. Even if you named him something like James someone won't like it! Children grow into their names. Think of all the people who have given their children names that you wouldn't dream of giving your own child? Horses for courses!

Sorry to say it but Albie is just awful. Bertie is much nicer if you use Albert

There is an Albie in our family who has just turned 7. I think its gorgeous. His is a stand alone name, although I think more of Albermarle than Albert when considering a longer version.

I would say it's definitely becoming fairly popular, and will also seem more popular than it is due to the massive popularity of very similar names i.e. Alfie, Archie, Artie etc.

Still lovely though - my DS has a fairly popular (top 50) name and I can genuinely say it's never been a problem and in 'real life' I've only ever met one other! :)

My Bertie (Albert) is due in 7 weeks! I hope his name doesn't become more-than-one-per-class popular, as that was one of the reasons we chose it. I love it though!

I know of two close family friends of ours. They're father and son (mid 30s and mid teens). They're the only ones I know of. Love NN Bertie.

LOVE Albert and Berg and at a push Bertie. Don't know any at all.

Don't like Albie- think it will get lost amongst all the Alfie's and dislike 'cutesy wutsey' names but that's a personal thing.

Dd would of been Albert had she been a boy. I love it and have not come across one yet..

Albie is def top of our list now. I found out that Albert was by great-grandfather's name and so that just makes it a bit more special!!

Albie is at the top of our list (im 33 weeks) I think we will use Albie as his full name rather than Albert, although I do like the nickname bertie too

If DD2 had been a boy she would have been Bertie Smile. We have an Albee at nursery (his full name) but he's the only one I know. I love it, go for it!
