Would you say al-ee-sha or al-iss-ee-ya? I've got two in my new class in September so just been thinking about it. Id say the latter to be honest.

I would say al-ee-sha

ems1910 · 01/08/2013 17:14

I would pronounce it A'lee'see'a. Only know of one eho was my dad's ex wife.

CharlieCoCo · 01/08/2013 18:00

i looked after one and both parents pronounced it differently to each other lol

MERLYPUSS · 02/08/2013 19:20

Spelt Alicia I would pronounce it Al-EEE-Sia. It is Spanish so the C should be pronounced TH (if you are being poncy).

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/08/2013 21:06

Al-iss-ee-ah

Al-ee-sha isn't the same name.

edam · 02/08/2013 21:08

Al-iss-ee-ya here. Have always understood Aleesha is American.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/08/2013 21:08

surrounded

I did the exact same thing!

Worst thing is I was only corrected after I'd mentioned to my mum what a nice name I thought it was, with my proncounciation. She almost died laughing (I was about 10).

edam · 02/08/2013 21:09

(There was one in the Malory Towers Enid Blyton stories - for years, as a small child, I thought it was Al-ick-ee-ya. Wasn't until my Mum had a new colleague called Alicia that the penny dropped!)

edam · 02/08/2013 21:10

Must read whole thread before posting. But kind of relieved I'm not the only one to make the same mistake. Grin

Alis-ear

Al-eesha sounds bloody horrible!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 02/08/2013 22:54

Al-iss-ee-ya.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/08/2013 23:05

The only Al-ee-sha I've ever know spelt her name Alysha.

bellablot · 02/08/2013 23:10

The former

MacaYoniandCheese · 02/08/2013 23:16

In Canada it's always Al-ee-sha. I think the UK version is much nicer: Al-ee-see-ah.

ILikeRed · 03/08/2013 22:48

I have a friend who pronounces her daughter's name a-lee-sya, which i think is prettier than a-li-sia...

lordleofric · 04/08/2013 15:23

I wished everyone pr in Alissia then I would have picked it for my dd due in oct but the mispronunciation puts me right off

Or you could use it, thames, and we could chase those Aleeshas out of town.

I had this one year in my class - two boys called Aaron - one of each pronunciation.
