Do you think Bee is an acceptable nn for Tabitha?

I love the nn Bee, I have/am currently considering Beatix and Phoebe to get to the nn Bee. These to names are still on my list however I also love Tabitha.

I don't mind the nn Tabby but I would prefer Bee. Do you think I would constantly be getting Confused by using Bee for Tabitha?

Also what category (vintage, old lady ish etc) would you put Tabitha in?

Ds is Eli, does Tabitha work with Eli?

Thanks again! X

Sorry - forgot to check back!

Never had anything except positive comments, altho the old person thinks her name is Tia.

T is also super easy for little people to say so her buddies use that (or Tab-fa as they get a bit older Grin )

I love the name Tabitha - a woman I know had a baby a few months ago and called her Tabitha, it is a beautiful name for a beautiful little baby.

Me and hubby only got our BFP 7 days ago and we refer to the baby as BeeBee (long story) and I often wonder in my head if we have a girl whether we'd end up calling her that Grin

I work with someone ( she's in her early twenties) called Bee, which is short for Abigail. Her work email says 'Bee', everyone calls her that - I doubt many people know what her 'real' name is, tbh.

nooka · 27/07/2013 07:26

I don't think that Bee is a very natural nickname from Tabitha, although I could see how it might evolve from Tabby. As a parent you can call your child whatever nn you like, but I'm not sure she'd be particularly likely to be called Bee by friends.

Bee can be a nn of any name that begins with a B of course, or come from affectionate terms like Busy Bee, or just be used anyway. As an example my mother is called Clare (my grandmother wanted a name with no shortenings), my grandfather called her Clarabella which then became Bella Bee and then just Bee (he liked nick names, my grandmother must have been very annoyed!).

I would put Tabitha in the 'associated with cats' category :) Not sure it particularly goes with Eli, just because Eli is so short and Tabitha is much longer. Not an issue if you call her Bee though!

Tabitha was Samantha's daughter in Bewitched, but they were both nice witches and Tabitha was a cute little blonde girl.

Apparently there was a surge in popularity of the name in the 60s when this show was on TV.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/07/2013 00:58

Nicknames can be whatever you want.

My Dad used to call me Muppet. Wholly unrelated in every way possible to my actual name bar one letter.

Rhubarbgarden · 26/07/2013 23:19

I think Bee is fine as a nickname for Tabitha (which is a lovely name, by the way). I know a Sylvia whose nickname is Boo .

Tickledyellow · 26/07/2013 22:49

Sorry about the typos!

Tickledyellow · 26/07/2013 22:49

Don't think it is possible to pan nicknames in advance. I think they evolve naturally, and, in my experience very rarely as planned! So, with this in mind, go for the name you love. All your names ate lovely by the way. But avoid the pre planning nicknames. You could call her Beatrice and se might end up as Melon or Cloud moo moo! Good luck

SolomanDaisy · 26/07/2013 22:19

Only if you think planning to use N as a nickname for Anne sounds right.

They're both nice names, but in no way related to each other.

Littleen · 26/07/2013 22:15

I think Bee is cute! Not a huge fan of Tabitha, reminds me of some evil witch on a tv program many years ago :P but Bee's very cute

kinkyfuckery · 26/07/2013 22:03

If you want her to be called Bee, just frigging call her Bee!!

bridgetsmum · 26/07/2013 21:47

My dd's name is Bridget, but I call her B

squoosh · 26/07/2013 21:43

Bebe is lovely!

LaGuerta · 26/07/2013 21:42

Honey?

cece · 26/07/2013 20:59

How about Bebe?

Reluctant2ndtimer · 26/07/2013 20:53

My DD is called Tabitha but Tabitha Tuppence just kept rolling out of my mouth. Then she was Tuppeny, then Tuppeny bit, now often Tuppeny B or just B.
The thing is, more often than not nicknames just evolve and you have little control over them. She's only 2.5 and has had loads of nicknames before being B, and I never would have thought she'd end up as B either. She was meant to be called Poppy which is her middle name but it just didn't stick.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 26/07/2013 20:46

I love Tabitha, and Bea is a lovely and perfectly usable nn Smile

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 26/07/2013 20:33

Of course you can call her Bee! There are no rules.

Nicknames spring from everything and nothing. I call my DD Lane a lot of the time, which is an abbreviation of her nn Lena (Ley-na). Her full name is longer still. I'm sure some people give me Hmm looks, but who cares/notices?!

Bee is a fab nickname for Tabitha, and Tabitha is, IMO, a much nicer name than the dumpy Beatrice.

Tabitha is one of those names like Merryn, Rosalind, Eleanor, Marianne, Miranda, Briony, etc, that is well-known, established, not overly used and stupidly popular, hasn't dated and so you could never be absolutely sure of the owner's age. A rare beast. :)

MollyBerry · 26/07/2013 20:17

I know a Katherine called Totty, nns don't always come from the real name so if you name her Tabitha she'll have that as an official name and then as long as you use Bee all the time it'll be her 'used' name.

I know 3 Tabithas all in their 20s, I don't know any young ones though

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 26/07/2013 18:06

Trinitybleu Tee could work! What reactions have you get to her name, does she like her name?

OP posts:
trinitybleu · 26/07/2013 18:00

Our Tabitha is nn Tee (written as just T).... would that be close enough?

BOF · 26/07/2013 17:52

Of course you can have Bee as a nickname- it's mine, and my given name is nothing like it Grin. That's B for Busy Bee though, which is ironic in my case. I have also known a Genevieve (love it) called Bunny.

RunRabbit · 26/07/2013 17:48

I think Beatrix is best if you want to use Bee.

FingersCrossedLegsNot · 26/07/2013 17:42

I love the name Tabitha equally with Beatrix and Phoebe, I wouldn't just use it to try to get to Bee.

I knew it was pushing it a bit, I thought it could kind of work with Tabitha going to Tabby going to Bee....though Tabby is cute also.

Another question for you all...do you think Tabitha will get as popular as Matilda?
