What do you think of it as a name? And is it really that popular?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I love it, although it is quite popular. I don't think it will date, my 90yo gran has the name and a 32yo friend. It ages well and will continue to be used as its so lovely.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/07/2013 17:21

It's pretty

but Ella, Ellie, Ellis are all very popular

HorryIsUpduffed · 26/07/2013 16:26

I think it is a wasted opportunity tbh. Lots of absolutely delicious names can be shortened to Ella (Annabel, Isabella, Clarabelle etc ) .

It also bothers me that on its own it means "she" in various languages. It doesn't really have an identity of its own iyswim - which is an appealing factor to many people I'm sure.

I think its a nice name, but yes its popular at the moment.

Makes me think of rain. that song umber- ella- ella- ella-ella

WhispersOfWickedness · 26/07/2013 15:49

I love it!

Have known three in my life, one is probably late 20s now, one is 14 and one is 5! So on that basis, I would say it won't date!

Sadly I couldn't use it as one of the three is a close relative, but it would have been on my list if not Smile

NotMyChashkaChai · 26/07/2013 15:41

Very popular and also makes me think of "kitchen"!

wigglesrock · 26/07/2013 15:14

I think it's a beautiful name, I know a few but I also know 2 Astrids born within 5 weeks of each other and at last count 4 Arthurs The youngest Ella I know is 5 now.

ZolaBuddleia · 26/07/2013 14:44

Lovely name, but there seem to be bazilions of them.

willyoulistentome · 26/07/2013 14:05

It's a nice name, but very overused.

mamaknows · 26/07/2013 14:04

I don't think of it as 'common' but it is a popular name. When I think of common names, it's usually Lily-Mai/May or Lily-Grace but only because I know of 4 little girls named that (no offense to any Lily's out there because it is still a pretty name and my favourite flower).

I don't think it will date either. When I hear the name Ella I always think of Ella Fitzgerald and to me she's a timeless lady!

squoosh · 26/07/2013 14:03

It probably will date a bit yes, but so do most names to be honest, some just quicker than others. It's hard to predict how a name will be viewed in 25 years time.

superdupermama · 26/07/2013 14:02

Is it popular to the point that it's become too common, hence will date quickly?

massively popular. there are TONS of them. it's a nice name, though.

I think it is quite popular but I wouldn't let that put you off as it such a beautiful name Smile

Saying that, I only know one Ella so maybe it just depends where you are?

squoosh · 26/07/2013 13:35

ch1134 · 26/07/2013 13:33
