What do you think of it as a name? And is it really that popular?

It's pretty, but there's a lot of them around at the moment. It's in the same sort of group as Maya and Lilly. All pretty names but super-common right now.

shoobidoo · 30/07/2013 11:36

Overused and therefore a little dull. T

nicelyneurotic · 30/07/2013 09:34

So boring now and I know loads of them. Agree with Orangepudding that it's the modern equivalent of Claire etc.

What about Estella? Or Isabella, Mirabel, Arabella?

orangepudding · 29/07/2013 19:50

I used to like it but now find it dull - a bit like the current equivalent of Jane, Lynn or Claire.

NoWayNoHow · 29/07/2013 19:45

Nice name, a bazillion of them around at the moment. That and Isabella/Bella which confused DS no end when he started school!)

Whelk · 29/07/2013 19:36

I love it

tooearlytobeup · 29/07/2013 19:11

Oops Blush

tooearlytobeup · 29/07/2013 19:11

I love it. My Ella is moving to secondary school this year. She was the only Ella all the way through Primary school so not that common around here.

mrstowers · 29/07/2013 18:59

Yawn. Far far too many of them, sorry.

hurricanemum · 28/07/2013 19:30

Pp a Stella is a BRILL suggestion. I love that name!

hurricanemum · 28/07/2013 19:29

It's a lovely name. Pretty buy solid iyswim. Lots of them though but that doesn't have to put you off.

KnittedWaffle · 28/07/2013 19:24

I have one (so obviously I love it). I did think about naming her a longer name and shortening it but she didn't suit the names I had in mind.

As for popularity - we've lived in a large city and are now in a town and she's attended 4 different nurseries but I haven't met another one (except a 9 year old once in he park)
There isn't one in in her reception year in September either (45 children)
TBH I don't mind if it's popular.

chickensaladagain · 28/07/2013 19:17

I've an Ella, she often gets called Ellie because people are idiots are more used to it

You will also get people singing -Ella Ella Ella eh eh eh

But I think it's a beautiful name, only 2 in her 2 form entry primary and I know another in her 40s

mikkii · 28/07/2013 19:16

We have a Gabriela that we shorten to ela (Spanish spelling). We do know a few more.

Exhaustipated · 28/07/2013 19:09

Very popular, and very similar to other very popular names. Like the Ella Fitzgerald connection though!

I love it!

I've heard on mn that its popular but I also heard that about Dd s name and most people we meet around here have never heard if the name before!

I also think that names are usually popular because they're such lovely names so I wouldn't let that put you off!Smile

formicadinosaur · 28/07/2013 18:27

Too popular. Know loads what about Stella

PinkApple86 · 28/07/2013 18:21

Love the name Ella. It's vintage and back in fashion. If I was having a girl I would love to call her Ella

squeak2392 · 28/07/2013 02:54

I can't comment on how popular it is

But my Nana was called Ella (she be 100 this year!) and I've always thought it was a lovely name.

deepfriedsage · 27/07/2013 11:40

I would go with a longer name and shorten to Ella.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/07/2013 11:36

It seems incomplete to me.

I've not met any little ones called it yet.

ScumbagCollegeDropout · 27/07/2013 11:30

Very popular. Nice enough but a bit boring for my taste.

CruCru · 27/07/2013 11:26

It is a nice name, very popular though. People may well "shorten" it to Ellie - would that bug you?
