Stupid reasons your dp gave to veto a name. (light hearted)

I will admit this came from a comment on the Imogen Tamsin thread as it reminded me of dh when we were looking for names for our children.

He doesn't like what he says are " weak" names so for him Christopher and Alastair are "weak names"

Wouldn't consider Tristan and Sebastian as they were gay names.. (err how the F can a name be gay?)

and it was incredible for a guy who went to a all boys school the amount of girls names that were vetoed because it reminded him of a girl from when he was at school.....

I was like... Hmm

Disclaimer this is considered to be lighthearted..

Obviously I had sound reasons for each of the suggestions he came up with like " No I dont like it" :)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Viewofthehills · 18/08/2013 16:50

Natasha- too Russian
Natalie- scruffy little girl with jam in her hair!?
Francesca- too posh

enormouse · 18/08/2013 11:50

Felix- Because it is a cats name
I got this too. I tried to point out that in his favourite film there's a character called feix leiter and got told that he's so cool he can get away with being called anything.

Yet he wanted to call our first child Giacamo (sp?), after Casanova. Hmm
His other suggestion was Giac (pronounced Jack).
Thank God he saw reason though.

SoulTrain · 18/08/2013 11:41

Oh god. Where to start. DH was a bloody nightmare.

Isla - because she'll get called Isla White and we live near there.
Lara - because a girl that kicked him in the balls in middle school was called that.
Kitty - because his ex used to call him that snigger and Hmm

I could go on.

driftwoodsands · 18/08/2013 11:35

Fraser: We're not Scottish Hmm
Isaac: We're not Jewish Confused
Fergus: It reminds me of Fungus the Bogeyman... Shock

MrsPatMustard · 18/08/2013 10:47

Kitty: "Because Kitty is what you'd call a 90 year old woman who stinks of cabbage and knits her own pubes..."

Apologies to parents of any Kittys out there. I think it's a lovely name...

Corkle · 18/08/2013 10:32

"Pippa - because people would think we named her after the royal family. Failed to see that Pippa Middleton isn't actually a member of the royal family!"
Looki mine said exactly the same thing!!

tumbletumble · 18/08/2013 07:52

William - apparently it's too posh

AnnaKissed · 18/08/2013 07:50

My dh won't even consider Alex because of Alex Ferguson. Angry

Hooya · 18/08/2013 01:19

Fun!

Saul - 'we're not Jewish' (so?)
Isaac - as above
Barnaby - 'just sounds a bit knobbish'
The initials HJ - 'short for hand job' (not according to anyone I have asked)
Ace - 'you are f**king kidding me right?' ok that is fair enough

PinkGlove · 17/08/2013 23:13

LOVE this thread ...

Leo - Sayer
Evan - 'We're not welsh'
Casper - A joke name
Theo - Paphitis
Theodore - a gays name Confused

Frikadellen · 29/07/2013 15:43

Some of these are hysterical

I always thought dh thought Sebastian was a gay name due to Brideshead revisited.. (are those of you with dh's who feel this married to 40 odd year olds?)

Sebastian is my all time favourite name so I was gutted to let go of it. dd1 ended up being called Phoebe as dh had wanted that for a girl since he was 14 and that veetoed my favourite girls name (Monica)

I suspect it is why he let me have dd'2 s name as he originally said no because he felt a bit bad I never got a name I truly loved..

FreedomOfTheTess · 29/07/2013 12:23

I can't say the actual name, as it would give away our surname, but DH vetoed a name for DD1 on the basis her name (FN + SN) would be the same name as a former First Lady of the United States. While I accepted that it was an obvious association (she was one of the first First Ladies and a much loved one), it is hardly a BAD association, it isn't like our surname is Hindley and I wanted the name Myra!

SurroundedByGiraffes · 29/07/2013 10:08

chatty Sebastian Flyte from Brideshead I am guessing.

TwoStepsBeyond · 29/07/2013 10:00

Finn - because he might be fat
Tiger - ok he may have had a point with that one

..but he was prepared to call our DS Buzz or Woody for at least a week after he was born. Changed it more than once during that time and now DS wishes he was called Buzz!

chattychattyboomba · 29/07/2013 09:58

Witt- ROFL at Bendydick... LOL!!!Grin

chattychattyboomba · 29/07/2013 09:53

Ashamed to say my DH also says Sebastian is a 'gay' name... And I know of at least 2 other friends dH's who separately said the same! Where are they getting that from?
He also doesn't like 'ella'bella' names as he says it will be Ella smells etc
Hmm

gatsby79 · 29/07/2013 09:46

My husband has vetoed almost every name I have come up with because he says it's the name of a sitcom character. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of sitcoms and I can't compete with this! I actually think he's made some of them up...

SurroundedByGiraffes · 29/07/2013 09:37

DH vetoed Sam and Alfie because "they sound like middle class people trying to be working class" and Edward because it ends with d...

SurroundedByGiraffes · 29/07/2013 09:35

madamejosephine I am thinking Corin?

Witt · 29/07/2013 09:31

DH has vetoed Benedict because he would be called Bendy Dick at school. I said jokingly that we should send him to a public school then (joking because we wouldn't be able to afford it) and he said that in that case he'd be called Poor Bendy Dick.

MadameJosephine · 29/07/2013 08:55

imnotbloody14 I can't think of anything that rhymes with boring and sounds like orange! It's driving me mad trying to figure out what name your DS has

looki · 29/07/2013 00:22

I know somebody called that already

I get the above a lot! Its a get out clause for any name he doesn't want to discuss.

Particular names that spring to mind -

Sebastion - he knew somebody growing up called Sebastion who had 'an annoying voice'.

Alex - his sister's friend growing up would think we called the baby after her! I have to say here that we have met his sisters friend Alex once in the last five years!

Pippa - because people would think we named her after the royal family. Failed to see that Pippa Middleton isn't actually a member of the royal family!

raisah · 28/07/2013 23:49

this is hilarious, you have all got really funny partners!

For dd:
Daria - people would think of diarrhoea
Eva - his DN is called Adam so peopl would put the two together
Selena - reminds him of semolina
Mazlina - reminds him of a Mazda car

we eventually picked a name and eventhough I wasn't 100% sure of it, it is the best name for dd.

Doodledumdums · 28/07/2013 23:25

Oscar- Because it is a dogs name.

Felix- Because it is a cats name.

Any name beginning with a 'H' because all names beginning with H are too posh?!

This coming from a man who would have happily named our baby son Elvis Maverick Valentino Hmm

defineme · 28/07/2013 23:18

Stella -'no it's a beer'- and you like it so...
