Only like Jem from the boys' list but do really like it.
Only like Wren and Elise from the girls' and would only personally use Wren as a mn. LOVE Edie but not Eden.

mamaknows · 28/07/2013 16:10

Thanks everyone!

I think Wren is definitely the main contender for a girl but I'm stuck for middle names, any suggestions?

I like Jem - reminds me of Jamaica Inn too! I love that book :)

Onesleeptillwembley · 27/07/2013 00:01

Annaliese and Elise are loveky. The rest are awful, really, really awful.

squoosh · 26/07/2013 23:30

Jem from the Anne of Green Gables series is lovely too. He was a James.

notanyanymore · 26/07/2013 23:26

I love Jem ( Jamaica Inn is one of my all time favourite books so I am a bit biased)

Rhubarbgarden · 26/07/2013 23:24

I love Wren, Annaliese and Elise.

mamaknows · 26/07/2013 21:27

squoosh I think Jem was originally a medieval form of James, I know that in Jamaica Inn the character of Jem was short for James but I'm not particularly keen on James or Jeremy!

And Cavan was also the name of one of DP's elders but I shall have to veto it as a first name because your 'Shropshire' reference really did make me chuckle!

The only boys names I like are Flynn and Emrys, although I love Jeremy if you plan on using that as a full name.

The girls names are all lovely but I particularly like Eden and Rosalie.

squoosh · 26/07/2013 20:02

I'd have Jem as a nickname of James, not Jeremy though. DEFINITELY not Jeremy.

Badvoc · 26/07/2013 20:00

I like Flynn and Jesse.
Love Elise.

squoosh · 26/07/2013 19:58

Jem - ok as a nickname
Jesse - like
Flynn - not a fan of surnames as first names
Hudson - bit American soap opera-ish but kind of cool
Emrys - no
Cavan - WEIRD. Would be like calling your son Shropshire.

And for the girls:

Quinn - still not a fan of surnames as first names
Wren - LOVE
Eden (nn Edie) - ok
Bonnie - hate
Rosalie - bit drippy
Annaliese/Elise - no

mamaknows · 26/07/2013 19:51

Jamie thanks for the contributions! Smile

I'm not too keen on the suggestions for boys names I'm afraid but I do really like Robyn, I was torn between that or Wren! I do quite like nature names at the moment.

For girls, given your taste, what about:

Robyn
Stevie
Billie

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/07/2013 17:28

mama

What about

Evan
Hadyn
or Aneurin (nn Nye)

(Welsh)

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 26/07/2013 17:26

I like Jem and Jesse

I like Bonnie and Elise - but the latter may get shortened to Ellie/Ella, which, although pretty aren't quite the same, and v v popular

NoComet · 26/07/2013 14:26

The only Annalise I've ever known was a American and as nice as she was pretty. My good looking flat mate married her.

mamaknows · 26/07/2013 13:44

Thanks for all your comments fellow Mumsnetters!

Quinn has caused a bit of a debate amongst a few others in RL but it holds a sentimental value to me because of my Mum so it's a firm favourite on my girl's list, as is Wren and Annaliese.

I love Jem and Jesse but DP has Irish and Welsh connections hence Emrys and Cavan!

TruJay I might take a leaf out of your book and keep schtum from now on! Grin

I know an Emrys and I'd never heard it before I met the little boy and its really nice - he's Welsh.

Jem is alright but I'd secretly be thinking "yes, we've all read To Kill a Mocking Bird", same with Atticus, Scout etc.

I have a bit of a name crush on Jesse, I'm not sure I would use it, but I would secretly envy anyone that did.

Cavan is a county in Ireland.

I like Quinn for a girl, same with Wren and I really like Elise as well.

Rosalie is a bit Twilighty and I'm just not a fan of Rose names.

LazyMonkeyButler · 25/07/2013 23:51

I know a Cavan in RL - he is from a rather laid back, lentil weaving type family and is a lovely lad.

Jem I love. I wanted to shortlist it for DC2 & DC3 but DH said it was "too posh" Hmm.

Quinn I don't like - says quim to me (although I know from a previous thread that quim is not a particularly well known word for fanjo, it is what is says to me!).

Bonnie - no. Bonnie Langford ruined that one for me.

Rosalie is a gypsy on a pier telling fortunes.

Jesse - no, I would forever hear my grandma saying "he's a right Jessie, him". Meaning wimp, coward etc.

Edie/Eden - I love.

Annaliese - too fussy for me. Elise is fairly chavtastic where I live, sorry.

Flynn - fine, not love, but certainly like.

Hudson - no. Not sure why, but no.

Emrys - nice enough, but sounds welsh. Are you welsh?

BTW, where is Cavan? Never heard of it as a place name Confused.

ZolaBuddleia · 25/07/2013 23:06

Jem - lovely
Jesse - would worry a bit about the teasing angle from old ladies
Flynn - OK
Hudson - not for me, it's in the Logan/Mason/Tyler bracket
Emrys - like it very much
Cavan - it's a place

Quinn - Quim
Wren - lovely
Eden (nn Edie) - lovely
Bonnie - twee and princessy
Rosalie - don't like it at all
Annaliese/Elise - love both, to me they're different names though

AcrylicPlexiglass · 25/07/2013 22:32

Wren and Quinn definitely female in this neck of the woods- I met a baby girl called Wren quite recently and someone I know from work named has her daughter Quinn.

Jesse and Edie are bloody beautiful. Would happily use either myself. Bit different, not too out there, but there won't be 50 others in the same class. Lol

TenthMuse · 25/07/2013 22:10

Like Jem if short for Jeremy and Flynn. Not convinced by Emrys or Cavan, though, and Hudson just reminds me of that Bruce Willis movie (Hudson Hawk?!).

From your girls' list I really like Wren, and Rosalie/Annaliese are pretty too. Quinn is either a boy or the cheerleader from Glee, Eden sounds a bit 'lap dancery' and Bonnie sounds a bit wishy-washy and insubstantial to me.
