We don't know the gender of dc3. We have two names; Charlotte and Edward.

The more time goes on, the more I get a little bored by these names.

We have a tricky surname, rhymes with Pea, is also letters and starts with an 'L'. This means names like Rosa are out because when said with surname it would sound like rosalie.

I'm not really keen on modern names but like traditional, classic but not boring or overused.

Any ideas???

Olivia goes brilliantly with my surname but my closest friend has a dd called Olivia so would feel weird using it.

VBisme that is how I would pronounce it too. I think it goes really well with the surname.

Olivia is lovely too. I agree long names go well with a short surname, and vice versa.

Apileofballyhoo · 28/07/2013 01:50

Olivia? I think long names work well with a short surname. If you shorten the name informally they can still use the long version introducing themselves.

VBisme · 28/07/2013 01:12

No, I'd pronounce the Li in Alicia as li as in liberty, not lee as in leeway so I think it goes very well.

Onyabike · 27/07/2013 21:11

I definitely think Alicia goes well with your surname.

FromageFrog · 27/07/2013 21:05

I love Harriet esp nn Hattie but dh not keen

Minerva (Minnie)
Anastasia

Rufus
Josaih

FromageFrog · 27/07/2013 19:49

I can't use Helena because of family.

I'm not keen on the nn's Vicky and Liz with the other two names VBisme.

So no one thinks the 'lee' sound in Alicia would be a problem?

OP posts:
VBisme · 27/07/2013 19:42

I love Alicia have you considered Helena? Victoria? Elizabeth?

Onyabike · 27/07/2013 19:37

Yes.

WafflyVersatile · 27/07/2013 19:30

Yes.

FromageFrog · 27/07/2013 18:56

I really like:

Elliot
Alicia

But do they go?

Onyabike · 26/07/2013 08:52

If you intend to use the nickname on a day to day basis (ie introduce them as their nickname) then obviously people may use the nickname and the surname together and therefore you will need to consider how the nn and surname sound with each other. I have only ever introduced the DC using their full names. Those that use nicknames for my DC would be close friends and family and therefore the surname would never be said with it (I must also add that some of the nicknames that the DC go by with their friends could have never have been predicted!)

KoalaFace · 26/07/2013 08:39

Thats it curlew Blush

I'm sleep deprived!

curlew · 26/07/2013 08:36

Lorra-lie.

KoalaFace · 26/07/2013 07:36

I keep saying it over and over trying to think of the best way to spell phonetically!

Laur-o-lie

Like Laura-lie almost.

That doesn't make any sense does it??

FromageFrog · 26/07/2013 07:34

How do you pronounce that Koala?

OP posts:
KoalaFace · 26/07/2013 06:53

If I had your surname and was having a girl I'd call her Lorelei. Marilyn Monroe's character in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds was called Lorelei Lee and I love that movie!

Thirstysomething · 26/07/2013 04:08

I do like Carys, but might it get mispronounced Cary and end up sounding a bit like Dairylea?!
I also am not sure I agree that nicknames and surnames are rarely said together. My children are very often called Nn plus surname at school, at the doctors (where they know us well), etc etc? So I get the point about Zach Lee...

But I still think none of this should put you off if you love a name, it isn't as if any of them are truly awful with your surname... Unless you are the OP on the thread about Addison?!?!

AlfalfaMum · 25/07/2013 22:09

I don't think anything ending in L would work.

Bartholomew (can't believe I'm suggesting that but think it goes really nicely with your surname!)
Jonathan
Jasper
Brendan
Cillian

Meridy
Rosina
Marissa
Gillian
Saffron
Virginia
Matilda
Saoirse
Jeanette/Jeannie

I know a Sebastian who is never shortened to Seb :)

Onyabike · 25/07/2013 21:45

Gabriel?

FromageFrog · 25/07/2013 21:31

I don't like Magnus for some reason.

I do like Reuben but dh doesn't (opposite to imaginaryhats house!)

OP posts:
TolliverGroat · 25/07/2013 19:52

If you liked Marcus, what about Magnus?
