Not sure how I feel about using my boys name, George, if Kate and William use it. Am I being stupid or would this put you off? Not due until December so is it a big deal??

I think it'll ne something Charles Michael.

GuffSmuggler · 23/07/2013 20:13

There are absolutely LOADS of Georges around, it's not exactly a rare name that will only become popular if they use it!

HorryIsUpduffed · 23/07/2013 20:08

Roffle - it was a clunk-click base. That's what we had too. Who knows how much anxiety and swearing there was strapping him into the seat behind closed doors... Grin

Did Prince Albert have a little prince albert though? Was it really to do with keeping trouser fronts flat? Can someone please explain that one?

You don't necessarily keep your name when you become Regent. You can call yourself whatever you like.

They are leaving the hospital at about 7 tonight they are saying on the news. If they were 'real folks' their car would have been clamped (traffic wardens are viscious around the hospital) and the baby seat would be a source of mystery to them.

I wonder if I'll see them on my school run (I pass the palace every day!). I shall wave daily (until royal protection tell me to stop).

8thplace · 23/07/2013 17:41

Isn't Prince Albert something a bit rude?

( I hope for George after my DS)

UniqueAndAmazing · 23/07/2013 16:52

i like the Albert tradition though.

arabesque · 23/07/2013 16:45

Queen Vic is dead. They should just ignore her. In fact they should ignore everyone and call the baby whatever they like -
King Josh, King Sam, King Oscar, King Steve, King Keith, King Kyle, King Brooklyn, King Kong, anything they like!

I'd say these days it would have a little to do with the piercing, although no one at the palace would be so indelicate as to say that.

UniqueAndAmazing · 23/07/2013 15:15

Albert is out because Queen Victoria said that there would never be a King Albert - they refused to let him be King - they allowed Prince Consort but wouldn't go as far as King Consort (being the closest allowed because the monarch was a Queen.)
their reason was that a King must rule higher than a Queen, and the fact that it was her job meant that he couldn't be called King.
so she said that there would never be a King Albert.

nothing to do with the piercing named after him to keep his trouser front flat.

squoosh · 23/07/2013 15:10

The list is in the Queen's handbag.

UniqueAndAmazing · 23/07/2013 15:10

ooh, someone mentioned Francis because of Diana.

I love Francis too.

Didn't someone say there was a list of approved names they should pick from?
does anyone have a link to that?

Well I know why Albert is out, my mind must be fevered from looking at the wikipedia page!

squoosh · 23/07/2013 15:05

Why is Albert out?

Naming this child is a diplomatic minefield!

Penis-y means penis related.

A Prince Albert is the name of a penile piercing favoured by Queen Victoria's husband.

UniqueAndAmazing · 23/07/2013 15:00

Albert is not allowed.
well, i think they're allowed to call him Albert, but Albert cannot be his King name.

I like Arthur or Frederick.
actually, I love Frederick.

Yes, I miscountedBlush

Edward's son is 9th in line!

And yes, of course, her brother is also James.

Gary, after her Uncle??Grin

arabesque · 23/07/2013 14:46

They may pick a name they like but also have a name for when he's King. The Queen's father was Bertie but became King George and Edward vlll was David.

FobblyWoof · 23/07/2013 14:31

Fuck sorry for all the posts! But I don't think they'll pick Johnathan either because of Prince John. I beleieve that since him there's been no one called John in direct line to the throne

FobblyWoof · 23/07/2013 14:30

I don't think they'll choose Henry as that's Harry's actual name, and the same for James as it's Kate's brothers name.

I think Edward is eighth in line to the throne now:- Charles, William, baby, Harry, Andrew, Beatrice, Eugenie, Edward.

FobblyWoof · 23/07/2013 14:26

I'm due in December too and I wouldn't use a name that Will and Kate choose.

Two reasons really; one, the name will shoot up in popularity and although I like fairly popular, traditional type names I really don't want a name in the top five. Two, everyone will think you've deliberately picked it because of the royals!
