Girly names....Clover?

I like unique, but girly names. I did like Lola, but have seen it completely overused and am now pretty off it.

What are your thoughts on Clover? Does it sound like a horse's name? Or a leprechaun? Another suggestions for girly, but different names?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like Clover, and fwiw cows are usually called things like 'D3472' . I've never heard of a cow called Clover.

Laquila · 18/07/2013 12:15

I'm really surprised at people saying it sounds hard/masculine - to me it's very definitely a girls' name. I quite like it really, but then I was also a big fan of the WKD books! Doesn't particularly make me think of cows, or butter.

Tbh I much prefer it to Lola. Have you thought of Claudia, Florence, Tabitha, Esme?

TenthMuse · 18/07/2013 11:30

Love it - think of 'What Katy Did' rather than cows! It's feminine without being frilly or fussy, and I like the nature connection. Definitely a marmite name, though (a bit like Tabitha, one of my other favourites, which invariably gets either 'love it' or 'cat's name' when people comment on it!)

rockybalboa · 18/07/2013 04:03

Oooh, pretty! I like it.

cafecito · 18/07/2013 02:53

Awful

ZingWidge · 18/07/2013 02:47

Clover-spreadable butter

a no from me

IHeartKingThistle · 18/07/2013 01:07

Love it!

Skygirls · 18/07/2013 00:42

Clover brings rabbits to mind, I'm afraid.

How about Fleur? Flora could be nice but then you'd get the margarine connotations.

sleepingbeautiful · 18/07/2013 00:31

I love it. When I read WKD I used to wish my own name was Clover.
My DH however had it on his list of cows names, although his is quite an annoyingly long list of "nope, moooo" as he grew up on a cow farm. According to him Harriet and Emma are also cows names?!!

MoonHare · 17/07/2013 23:03

Puts me in mind of cows/rabbits too.

Sorrell, Tansy, Bryony, Saffron???

Still18atheart · 17/07/2013 22:54

Quite like it

but too many conatations for cows and butter imo.

DramaAlpaca · 17/07/2013 22:50

I quite like Clover (another What Katy Did fan!) but not enough to use it myself.

mirry2 · 17/07/2013 22:46

Definitely a cow's name

shoobidoo · 17/07/2013 22:46

Shouldn't it be Clovina or Cloverina for a girl? Clover does sound quite masculine. How about Daisy or Rose if you like feminine flower names?

Mhysa · 17/07/2013 20:40

Love Clover, it's on my dream list that I'm not aloud too use along with Juniper. Beautiful name, think Jennifer Anniston played a character called clover in a film....

rachel234 · 17/07/2013 18:35

I don't find it feminine at all, sorry. But I don't like Lola either, so perhaps we just have different tastes Smile.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2013 18:34

Hate Lola though!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2013 18:33

LOVE it. Classic, feminine but not too frilly. Really, really lovely.

tammytoby · 17/07/2013 18:27

Are you sure it is a girls' name - sounds masculine to my ears, like Grover or Rover.

8thplace · 17/07/2013 16:53

I don't thinks its a pretty name, or a very girly name either. Sounds quite hard to me and I'm not keen at all , sorry.

(I am of an age where it brings to mind ermintrude, marigold and buttercup)

squoosh · 17/07/2013 16:05

Trixie Matilda is certainly ummmm, attention grabbing. But I have to say, it makes me imagine a woman called Matilda who performs 'tricks'.

PipkinsPal · 17/07/2013 16:03

It might be a good idea to give your child a cutesy name but imagine them being an old person and having the indignity of being in the Doctor's waiting room and the Doctor calling Tigerlily Smith over the tannoy and all eyes watching an old lady shuffling in with their zimmer frame. IMO Clover is the name of a cow or a rabbit.

soontobeslendergirl · 17/07/2013 15:56

Trixie is surely a yorkshire terrier?

daddoinghisbest · 17/07/2013 15:45

If my son had been born a girl she would have been named Trixie Matilda. My mum still thanks god every day that we had a boy. But I still like it. What do you think?

CecyHall · 17/07/2013 15:44

Yes I love Clover! DH wouldn't agree.

(A What Katy Did fan, hence my name on here!)
