Some silly article in the dm was saying who in their circle already had kids and they are friendly with some couple that has an Alexandra, 19 months old. Obviously they're not like normal people who can just choose another name, The Firm might tell them to pick it anyway, but at the same time they're quite modern and mightn't want to call their baby same name as good friends' baby? so, if I were their friend Wink I mean, if I were working for a bookies I'd be surprised if it's Alexandra.

What about Alexander for a boy though?

Ah DD3 was Mary right through the pregnancy until dp suddenly vetoed it the saturday before she was born! Would have been a bit disappointed though if we had called her that and then they jumped on the band wagon a few months later, everyone would think we'd copied them! Grin

Zyn · 11/07/2013 21:48

Vickkkkkkkkkaaaaaiy is like Bianca. they wouldn't - surely not?

Zyn · 11/07/2013 21:46

why aren't they allowed to use the name Alice??

mewkins · 11/07/2013 21:45

Ooh yes Charlotte has a good ring to it! Or Victoria (as my mum is convinced they will call her). I suspect Zara will choose something a bit out of the ordinary for hers.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 10/07/2013 08:59

I think the royal Princess Charlotte was incredibly popular but died in childbirth (around Victorian times, perhaps slightly earlier ?) so think that might put them off that one ? Also to me doesn't sound that English ?
(more French ?)

PeterParkerSays · 10/07/2013 08:54

I thought that Bookies had stopped taking bets on Charlotte?

Prefer Charlotte to Mary tbh.

PoppyAmex · 10/07/2013 08:53

There are dozens of European Queens called Mary / Maria, but there's such a strong Catholic connotation that I doubt they'll choose it.

DD is Maria and I think it's a beautiful elegant name, but I'm from Southern Europe originally and they're 10 a penny Grin

JugglingFromHereToThere · 10/07/2013 08:49

Sorry to offend anyone but I'm not as keen on Alexandra, because to me it's like Wilhemena or similar, and slightly a boy's name converted to a girl's. I'd prefer Mary or especially Alice personally. George nice for a boy - one we considered for DS (but didn't choose in the end !)

Ooh, anyone know, is Kate in labour - or was that just a rumour/ bit of fun on another thread ? Am ridiculously excited, must get a life !!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 10/07/2013 08:43

squoosh - mine too. Same reason. They'll never use it. For that reason.

AnythingNotEverything · 10/07/2013 08:37

But they aren't allowed to use Alice. That's what we were intending to call our wriggly bean if a girl.

Should I start an AIBU about how they should have asked permission? Wink

lljkk · 10/07/2013 08:31

Ooh.... I like Mary a lot. DH finds it too plain.

raisah · 10/07/2013 06:56

Why can't they choose a name they want rather than recycling the same old names? The need to expand the already limited name bank and there are lots of classic names that they could make royal by using. They are not going to name the baby Jayden or Chantelle are they?!!

Zynnia · 10/07/2013 00:05

Squoosh, yeah we hear 'our lady' hangin in the air before Mary, the British hear Queen of the Scots!

Zynnia · 10/07/2013 00:03

ps, I reckon that the might do Mary Elizabeth and call her Maribel (just around the house like Wink

Zynnia · 10/07/2013 00:02

Boo! I thought so too! I was reading today that a friend of theirs has a 19 month old Alexandra. I know they aren't normal people, they have a more limited selection of names to choose from and "just picking something else" isn't an option for them, but all the same, I wondered if they would use Alexandra if it's their close friends' baby's name.

SpringtimeForHitler · 09/07/2013 22:20

Mary lovely.

Alexandra also a beautiful name.

Albert for a boy? Another Bertie?

mewkins · 09/07/2013 22:16

I think Alexandrina Frances for a girl. George Henry perhaps for a boy?

sleepingbeautiful · 07/07/2013 14:47

I could see them having Princess Mary.
I've surprisingly heard of a few baby Marys recently. I think it's Downtown Abbey making it popular.

RoseFlowerFairy · 07/07/2013 13:29

Mary would make a nice change, I like it.

HotCrossPun · 07/07/2013 13:26

That's my middle name.

Glad to hear its a contender as according to MN I have a very chavvy first name Grin

FreedomOfTheTess · 07/07/2013 13:21

My 3 week old DD2 is Mary.

I was due about the same time as Catherine, but Mary arrived 4.5 weeks early (perfectly healthy), so at least if they do use it, I got in first!

nellymartin · 07/07/2013 13:20

Cannot go wrong with Mary, Evangeline, or Valencia!

squoosh · 07/07/2013 12:31

My middle name, the middle name of EVERY Irish woman my age.

It's fresher in England, I find it hard to get beyond the Our Lady connection.
