What do you think? Love Liv, and considered it for DD, but just didnt feel brave enough at the time. Now, I like Olive and Liv. However, I live in a very Connor/Jack/Sophie/Ella area. Olive and Liv would both be equally Hmm to most.

Wwyd?

I love it. I know a gorgeous little 7 year old Olive, she is known as Ollie to close friends and family but Liv is a great nickname too.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 06/07/2013 20:04

Yes, Meg and Olive is a really good combo :)

BrianTheMole · 06/07/2013 19:57

I quite like olive.

CruCru · 06/07/2013 19:53

Yes, I think that is nice.

MortifiedAdams · 06/07/2013 19:39

Hmmm.....I.am very pleased to see Liv getting a good response.

DD is Meg. Do you think they go enough?

I don't like it sorry

And especially don't like Olivia, but Liv is quite nice

Agree with the suggestion of Lavinia

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 06/07/2013 18:23

My Nan was called Olive too Gaius! You're not from Oxford are you?

Anyway, when people first started using it again, I was a bit aghast, but it has really grown on me. A much nicer and more classic way to get Liv than anything apart from Olivia which is v popular now.

GaiusIsAnAceName · 06/07/2013 18:16

My Nan was Olive, never struck me as odd until years later.

Liv is lovely!

xTillyx · 06/07/2013 09:39

I'm not keen on it myself, see no problem with Liv as a first name. I think of Liv Tyler and think it sounds classic and pretty.

Eskino · 06/07/2013 09:39

I like it. It's beautiful and really cool.

I know one Olive.

She's a bright, charming and beautiful little girl. I think she's around 5 now.

It's a beautiful name.

MortifiedAdams · 06/07/2013 09:24

Two syllables but the first syllable is a long one. Sort of Cambridge, but not Cambridge.

CruCru · 06/07/2013 09:22

How many syllables does your surname have? If it is long then Olive is lovely but it might be a bit stark with a short surname.

MortifiedAdams · 06/07/2013 09:18

Hmmm.....maybe a bit of a marmite name then.

On the buses! Sorry Smile

othersideofchannel · 06/07/2013 07:40

I think of a fat greasy black olive, sorry.

PuggyMum · 06/07/2013 00:18

I love olive! DH is not so keen but up there as one of my choices

squoosh · 06/07/2013 00:09

Wikipedia says that Liv is an old Norse name which means 'shelter'.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liv_(given_name)

scrumpkin · 06/07/2013 00:03

Olive is the fabbest of all names ever and If I was allowed another dc she would be an olive.

squoosh · 05/07/2013 23:58

Well Olive is quite trendy these days, if you love it you should use it.

MortifiedAdams · 05/07/2013 23:55

HMmm....not keen on the other longer names, though Olivia would be the safest bet all round to get Liv as a nn.

DD has a 'nickname' as a full.name but it doesnt feel like a nn, if that makes sense, and DH would, if left to his own devices, have just Liv - but it doesnt sit right with me.

Oh and don't care what the neighbours think!

squoosh · 05/07/2013 23:47

I think Liv is a lovely nickname.

I think Olive is just awful though, I think of Olive Oyl or Olive from On The Buses (which I've only recently seen for the first time, God it's crap!)

What about Livia or Lavinia or even Olivia?
