For a boy, pronounced Guy-us.

Classic Greek name and features heavily in the greatest TV show of all time - Battlestar Gallactica.

(had to name change as thus would totally out me IRL)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DumSpiroSpero · 05/07/2013 22:14

Aw, I think it's OK.

A lot of people would know how to pronounce it, thanks to the character in Merlin, and he could shorten it to Guy when he's older if he wanted to.

GaiusIsAnAceName · 05/07/2013 22:08

It might toughen him out. its not as bad as a boy named sue surely?

DP wouldn't let me have it anyway, for all the reasons you've listed. Thanks tho, was interested to see what the MN jury would make of it.

I'll go sulk now Wink

I would definitely remind you how cruel kids can be.

It would read and be called Gay-us.

Kids at my school would probably have gone the whole hog with Gay-us Maximus

Cassieyellow · 05/07/2013 22:03

think about them at school !

Bunbaker · 05/07/2013 22:03

"Sorry OP, I read it as Gay-us, which sadly could lead to name calling at a later stage."

^^ This.

I would only know the correct pronunciation if I heard it, otherwise I thought it was Gay-us.

beachesandbuckets · 05/07/2013 22:01

The 'Gai' part would be pronounced Gay by vast majority. No question. Sorry.

GaiusIsAnAceName · 05/07/2013 21:52

Rex is lovely Debs. Excellent name choices!

GaiusIsAnAceName · 05/07/2013 21:51

Why tho? its pronounced Guy-us not gay-us!

(my other choice was Galen pn Gay-len but even I can see sense on that one)

I'm surprised you are even fleetingly considering it tbh - the potential for name-calling is just there on a plate.

IceNoSlice · 05/07/2013 21:48

Nay. Poor fella would be teased.

AuntieStella · 05/07/2013 21:44

I think Merlin would be the popular association right now. But in a few years, that'll be forgotten. So unlikely to cause long term issues for the DC; rather it'll happen right now and so be noticed by you not DS.

badfaketan · 05/07/2013 21:44

Sorry,not a fan.
Teasing potential.
If you like that sound,go for Guy or Gus.
Or a different name altogether if it's unusual that you want.

Suzieismyname · 05/07/2013 21:42

Anything Roman (except perhaps Caligula) is fine by me. Just make sure middle name is not so ancient.

Cassius is lovely Debs, can I ask what name you picked for DS1 to go with it?

I've just been watching a programme about the ancient Greeks, got momentarily confused.

Gaius Julius Caesar. Roman. Neither yay nor nay.

GobblersKnob · 05/07/2013 21:33

Not unless you want your child to be teased mercilessly.

GaiusIsAnAceName · 05/07/2013 21:33

Caius could be the compromise we're after...

noblegiraffe · 05/07/2013 21:32

Maybe if your baby is born 80 years old.

GaiusIsAnAceName · 05/07/2013 21:32

Woohoo! not 100% nay's! Grin
