I have a Tabitha, middle name Marion, after mil.NOt foud out sex yet but if its a girl we definitly love Posy, very small possibility of using Josephine officially just in case and also because its dils mothers name.

All my children have family names as middle names and theres only really NIcola,Karen,Eleanor and Ethel left.I dont like the first two so i am thinking ethel?

I know its very old lady like but i do love granny chic? Also love Percy for a boy but dh doesnt like it and whenever ive mentioned it ive had looks of pure horror,so lets hope its a girl!

Love, love, love Posy. Please have Posy - I wanted it for dd2 and dp wouldn't let me. A little bit of me has still not forgiven him!

Ethel is bloody awful though, sorry.

Eleanor much, much nicer. Posy Eleanor is fab - I adore it.

ladymontdore · 02/07/2013 17:11

At least her middle name isn't rosie I suppose. OP I hope your surname isn't a noun. I really am Hmm that you would discard people telling you it's an awful name. Can you really not see that being called posy will sound to lots of people like posy as in 'that's posy new car' meaning show-off?

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 02/07/2013 17:10

I think Ethel Posy is much lovelier. :)

Idreamofsunshine · 02/07/2013 17:09

Definite no to Ethel from me sorry, its one of the worst names ever

usualsuspect · 02/07/2013 17:05

Ethel is awful

I like Posy though

redrubyshoes · 02/07/2013 17:03

Posy Ethel? Neither does it for me.

Percy means 'arse' in Finland so rethink if it is a boy and he wants to go to Lapland to meet Santa. Wink

ilovemulberry · 02/07/2013 17:03

I like both Posy and Ethel but I think Posy Eleanor sounds a bit better than Posy Ethel. I think Posy is adorable!

LaurieFairyCake · 02/07/2013 17:02

Sorry, just seen your x-post.

I now want to slap you with a wet fish Amber Grin

Come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, you can't call your child Posy - you just can't.

I work in an uber posh area - a place where I know 2 new babies called 'Manlove' and I still think you can't get away with Posy.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/07/2013 16:59

Ethel is an actual name.

Posy is not a name and utterly awful.

Onesleeptillwembley · 02/07/2013 16:56

I live in, and come from 'naice' areas. I've lived in not as nice areas. I have friends in frankly rough areas, I also deal with people from every strata of society professionally. I honestly do think Posy will not be well received (putting it mildly) wherever you live or aspire to.

CPtart · 02/07/2013 16:50

Josephine is lovely.
Posy is not.

AmberSocks · 02/07/2013 15:58

poppy daisy etc are too common, there are at least two of those in every class in my childrens school.

TBH im not really after opinions on Posy, thats already decided,i know its not going to be popular with everyone, but we love it,if i was a people pleaser i would go with something in the top ten. Also i dont feel she will get bullied for it,i guess it depends on what kind of area you live in.

Its between Ethel and Eleanor then!

What about Primrose Eleanor? nn Posy?

Scruffey · 02/07/2013 13:43

Posy is embarrassingly cutesy. It's ok on a baby, but no older.

Ethel is not really granny chic, it just conjures up visions of a grumpy old woman.

If you like those sorts of names, perhaps go with Ella, Poppy, Daisy, Annie, Evie...something a bit more usable.

Betrayedbutsurvived · 02/07/2013 13:32

Sorry but Ethel is dreadful.

NowPlayingZone · 02/07/2013 13:31

Also think Josephine itself if much nicer than posy.

NowPlayingZone · 02/07/2013 13:30

Posy & Ethel are bith a bit marmite. If you're gonna go with posy, then I'd use Eleanor as a middle name, it would be easier on your dd in the long run.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 02/07/2013 13:29

I think Posy-short-for-Josephine is lovely. Ethel would be a bit Hmm as a first name, but as a middle name, why not?

ChasedByBees · 02/07/2013 12:54

Really don't like it, sorry.

ladymontdore · 02/07/2013 12:45

Don't normally post on name threads but felt I must for the sake of your baby. Posy Ethel is a DREADFUL name, please don't do it!

Posy sounds like Posey(sp?) as in someone who is a poseur (sp? again). I know it means small bunch of flowers but that isn't the first think that comes to mind! And Ethel is awful. You might as well call her Stuck-up Muriel or something!

PetiteRaleuse · 02/07/2013 12:39

Granny chic !!! Why not just say old fashioned names?

Onesleeptillwembley · 02/07/2013 12:38

Posy is OTT twee, and not a name to grow into. Ethel - hmmm, I personally don't like it but it's inoffensive. To reiterate; Posy - just don't.

RosesInTheRain · 02/07/2013 12:37

I think Ethel is too harsh compared to Posy, if that were her full name. But imo Josephine Ethel sounds good.

Gumps · 02/07/2013 12:36

I love Posy and I too loved the story of Ballet Shoes.
If you and your dh love it do it. When we named ds2 my mum said no really what's his name?! But it suits him down to the ground and now even mum loves it. Or so she says...
