Thoughts on this please?

Afraid when I hear that name proposed for a baby I think 'oh dear, why would you want to inflict that on your child'. Makes me think of Ronald McDonald, Ron & Reggie Kray and Ronald Reagan. But each to his own and all that.

I raise you: Rodney. I think it's brilliant. I have looked at DS and thought: "You could have pulled off Rodney."

PipkinsPal · 01/07/2013 22:20

No. I've got an Uncle Ronald. He's about 5ft 5inch, fat rotund and bald.

MustafaCake · 01/07/2013 22:18

Awful.

Although I know a baby Ronnie and he is fab. His name really suits him!

sonlypuppyfat · 01/07/2013 22:16

Please don't

ElleCloughie · 01/07/2013 22:14

It makes me think of Ron Weasley. Only you can say if that is something that would bother you! I wouldn't use it personally, but I do like the name.

intarsia · 01/07/2013 22:07

I know a Ronald who's a really nice boy, so yes I would go for it. Isn't it a Viking name?

Ifcatshadthumbs · 01/07/2013 22:06

Awful

Sparklysilversequins · 01/07/2013 22:06

Awful.

Sorry, but I can't think of anything I like about that name - oh, and I've just remembered that a dear friend's loathsome, bullying father was called Ronald. Maybe that association is what makes me dislike it so much, but the Ronald McDonald association is indeed unfortunate and might well cause your DS grief.

Yes, surprisingly Ronnie is a rather nice nickname. Gerry is too though, and if you like names that end "ald" how about Gerald? I think it's much nicer than Ronald; it's a strong name but somehow less hard sounding.

Would immediately think 'Ronald McDonald' on the negative side, but really like the nn 'Ronnie' on the plus side.

Threetofour · 01/07/2013 18:03

Sorry! Meant to add the McDonald's thing just too much
