How do I choose a name when I hate every name?!

TwoTearsInABucket · 27/06/2013 12:35

19 weeks pregnant with DC3. I had definite favourite for DD, definite favourite for DS (but didn't get to use it and won't for DC3 either).

Every time I think of a name, 10 mins later I think yuk. And every name anyone suggests I think yuk. Same goes for baby books and the baby names boards (sorry everyone but all names are yuk Wink ).

Tell me I will like a name by the time the baby comes Confused

twotears

DD is Elizabeth Grace!
I wanted that name since DS1 and through each pg it was first or second choice.
after 5 boys (and after over a decade!) I got to use I last year.
still love it!
we call her LizaBaba ( nn my joint effort of DS3 & DS5)

DS3 second name is Jacob - can't fault it either!

TwoTearsInABucket · 28/06/2013 11:17

Well, as someone who doesn't like any names Wink, I like Holly and Elizabeth out of the girls list and Jacob for a boy.

Suzie - I could never let DH choose a name, it would be too annoying!

Liked the names Isobel, Matilda, Daisy, Holly, Freya, Elizabeth, Oliver, Jacob, Isaac. Now just don't feel sure about any of them.

Suzieismyname · 27/06/2013 18:23

Just let your DH decide then... if that's too dangerous then ask him to pick 3 and choose whichever you dislike the least.
Failing that William/Kate or Kai/Nevaeh

TwoTearsInABucket · 27/06/2013 18:18

fussy, I actually kind of like Eve Shock

knitted, I want to know your DCs names now!

I can't find the glitter one! But I did find this

On Saturdays, Quinoa likes to give orphans a ride in her child-sized speed boat. She says it's the least she can do.

Ha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!!!

"Quinoa farts glitter!"Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

TwoTearsInABucket · 27/06/2013 17:21

I googled it and found it through a Daily mail link amazing. I think I like Pantone. Very very funny! I am reeling at the pictures.

twotears I'll copy the link as is when I get back, so you can copy & paste.
the link is hilarious.

also inspired by another thread I like the idea of twins being called "Legol and Windza"
geddit?Grin

KnittedWaffle · 27/06/2013 16:54

Yes. DS2 has another unusual name Grin not as unusual though!
so now I worry that DD will wonder why she has a much more common (top 20) name and feel hard done by!

fussychica · 27/06/2013 16:53

Adam or Eve - sortedGrin
Both great names.

TwoTearsInABucket · 27/06/2013 16:45

Aww, seb1 Aren't mums funny sometimes? My mum spent her time like Hmm for any name I mentioned to her with the first two.

Twotearsinabucket, thanks for giving me a lovely memory there, when i was having DD2 my mum who has sadly passed away since, kept coming up with Beverly type names, I think a spent weeks like Hmm, brought a wee Smile back remembering that about mum.

TwoTearsInABucket · 27/06/2013 16:35

WAAAAAAHHHHHH! I can't open the link amazing. Do you pronounce Quinoa as it is spelled or as it should be pronounced (keen-wah) though? Either are genius! I think it would be Quinoa for a girl and Millet for a boy Grin

Knitted has DS2 got an unusual name? Did you follow your theory?

Rtfairy - what names did you love pre-pregnancy? Even the ones I liked and have thought possible just annoy me!

OP posts:
UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 27/06/2013 16:33

I had a list of about 250 names I liked before I fell pregnant...now none of them feel right...

Bloody hormones!

Rtfairy · 27/06/2013 16:23

I am 19 weeks pregnant and feel very similar. I am hoping it is just hormones as before I fell pregnant loved lots of names. Sorry, not much help but you aren't alone!

KnittedWaffle · 27/06/2013 16:22

Grin at 'Quinoa'

KnittedWaffle · 27/06/2013 16:21

I love the first letter 'rationale'. I had a similar one: DD's name is fairly common so if DC3 was a girl they would have to have a more common name too, whereas DS1's is completely unusual so that meant DS2 had to have an unusual one too. in case they felt hard done by

No such thing as over thinking when you're pregnant - you are right. All the time. And perfectly reasonable/rational! Grin

amazingmumof6 · 27/06/2013 15:59

I am still laughing at the timeout and Hawkeye ones Grin

amazingmumof6 · 27/06/2013 15:57

twotears - thank you - R-poonz was a team effort though

look at the link below, you will want to name your daughter Quinoa after that. I dare you not to consider it least.

your son also.

I want to be called Quinoa. I am not even kidding

TwoTearsInABucket · 27/06/2013 14:41

amazing, I can understand why you are called amazing with that naming talent!

My mum keeps suggesting what I consider ridiculous names (Beverley anyone? Apologies to all the Beverleys out there, as I said, I hate all names!).

Mine and DH's names are really similar. We have used both our names as middle names for DS and DD, so another minefield of what middle name for DC3!

Got the 20 week scan next week so at least I will be able to narrow down my choices.

Knitted, I was the same with DD and DS but the other way round. I prefer girls names to boys names so I was very meh about DS's name. even now I am not sure I like it Shock

AND DS and DD both have the same first initial (not on purpose) so people keep asking if it will be another name with the same letter. So I can't decide if DC3 will feel left out if they don't have that letter or it will look completely stupid if they do.

Not that I am overthinking this in any way, oh no.

OP posts:
KnittedWaffle · 27/06/2013 14:10

I was exactly like this with DC3 and found myself almost raging at anyone making a suggestion because I felt like they were taking the piss Blush

I already had a DD whose name I loved, a DS whose name was a compromise but grew on me and I now love.

I ended up registering DS2 at 6 weeks because I couldn't decide. Love his name now though and would've been screwed if he were a girl as I couldn't stomach ANY girls' names

You could have some fun with it: take the first letter of each family member and make a name from that? Take the first part of your name and the second part of DH's?
I know someone who took the first part of heir continent and the second part of their DH's continent and made a name - it's actually quite nice!

Cockadoodlequack · 27/06/2013 14:03

Or, you could vow to name it after your mw, or the next HCP you speak to if not the right gender? Grin

Cockadoodlequack · 27/06/2013 14:00

Narrow down maybe 3 names you hate the least, write them down then stop discussing/thinking about it. When your baby is born, decide quickly without overthinking it which one suits them best and start calling them the name straight away, and they will 'become' that name very quickly IFSWIM.

Disclaimer - It worked with my DD, but I didn't feel the impressive hatred that you have of ALL names! I love her name now, and have done since she was born, but while pg wasn't crazy about any name- but I reckon my ill-feeling was against the sheer choice available and the pressure of it, not the name/s itself.

DownyEmerald · 27/06/2013 13:48

Choose something that isn't a name yet. A word you like.
