What's Johnny's twin sister called?

We have just found out we're having twins, one of each. Well, we knew it was two, just not the genders. So, fixed on John, to be called Johnny for the boy. Just love it, used to live near one - gorgeous boy. Can't agree on his twin sister though....

I want something classy but cool. What do you think? I like Hester, Clara, Cordelia, Tabitha so far - if that helps.

Thanks!

One question, meant kindly - do you know that Johnny is American slang for condom?

stickortwist · 26/06/2013 20:39

Clara deffo. Lovely name.
Hester is a bit close to hector for me so i think boisterous 4 yr old boy when i hear the name (friend has a hector)

BettyYeti · 26/06/2013 20:47

of the names you mention, clara by a mile.
I also thought immediately of Frankie and Johnny!

I also like the suggestion of Elizabeth with a shortening, so you have John and Elizabeth, aka Johnny and Eliza/Beth/Bessie/Betsy/Libby etc

WeAreSix · 26/06/2013 20:50

Doesn't Johnny love Rosie?

And no idea why iPhone autocorrects to johnnycake!!!

Not to rain on the parade but as STDG pointed out Johnny is slang for condom.
It's not just an American thing either that's why I call them. Most Americans I know call them rubbers

PeriodMath · 26/06/2013 23:06

Yes, aware of condom ref, couldn't care less! Btw, unheard of in the US, purely an English thing and I've never heard anyone say it.

Anyway, condoms are a good thing, no? Seriously, you can mock anyone's name if you care enough to do so Wink

Look at all the little Williams there are - just asking to be called Willy at school surely? And children are far more familiar with willies than condoms!

Good for you

Of it wasn't for such associations my dd would be called cherry

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/06/2013 23:49

I hope you don't think I was mocking your choice of name - I honestly wasn't. Sad

bootsycollins · 26/06/2013 23:50

Johnny and Lucy

nooka · 27/06/2013 00:16

I'd chose another traditional name or another short strong name (or both) to go with John/Johnny.

Helen(a)
Sarah
Susan/Suzanne
Elisabeth
Margaret
Vivian

In fact I suspect there are lots of names that would work well with John/Johnny, I'd just personally not choose something very modern (Brittany, Casey etc) or frilly (Arabella, Seraphina etc) although maybe the latter works in a Sloany sort of context.

Misfit13 · 27/06/2013 00:38

The condom thing did occur to me, so I did a survey. Well, I asked DS1 (19) and his friends what they thought when they heard Johnny. They said Cash, Ramone, Rotten etc, but not one of them said condom. I had to tell them it was slang for condom as it seems no-one under the age of about 35 would make the connection. So, I wouldn't worry about that as anyone old enough to call condoms Johnnys is probably too old be to teasing a child for his name!

HerrenaHarridan · 27/06/2013 09:36

I'm under the age of 35 by about a decade!

HerrenaHarridan · 27/06/2013 09:37

Although I obviously wouldn't tease a child about their name!
