2 weeks to go: Edith, Elsa......

DH isn't budging from Edith which I do love but still have a fear that she may one day hate us for it Sad
Elsa has always been on the list but now I'm throwing Ivy and Cara in there too........ Help....... Throw me some similar names or tell me I'm being daft being afraid to use Edith when we love it

I named my daughter Edith, we call her Edie for short. I was partly inspired by Edith Bowman who was chatting in an interview about her old lady name - she didn't seem too devastated by it. And I wanted a name which wasn't too girly so that if she decides to be an astrophysicist or brain surgeon then it would work okay ifswim?! (no pressure)

Elsa is also a gorgeous name however.

I don't want to use it 'because Edie is a nice nn' I know it would get shortened by some but I definitely prefer Elsa to Edie. I think Edith is nicer than Edie

Edith is very pretty and when you name your daughter it, she will grow into it and other people will see her not some old fashioned image.

Yes it's unusual but in an interesting way. Plus she will never be known be her surname like the mass of isabellas/eves/sophias etc.

If you are your husband love it, that is all that counts. I bet in 25 years time, it will be the coolest name in her peer group.

It's refreshing!

Completely agree with Squoosh. It's a name for an elderly woman not a baby ifkwim. Other throw back names eg Lilly, Rose etc are pretty names - Edith is an ugly name imho. But then your not me and if you and your dh like it then go for it, I do know if my mother had called me Edith I would not be thanking her!

Hmmm, maybe, but Edith seems to be one of the trendy old lady names these days so it won't have the same dusty image for da kidz!

If you really love it just go for it. As I say Edie is cool and Edie Sedgwick is a fashion icon for many people.

See.... This is why I have doubts. There will always be a fair amount of people that dislike the name which I know shouldn't bother me but I'm afraid it might bother her ikswim. Whereas..... Elsa I don't think falls into peoples' 'how could you' list as easily if at all... Except maybe for the Born Free association.

If you both love Edith well then you should use it.

I wouldn't use it in a million years, it's virginal old spinster name. Edie is ok for short though and much cooler.

However Elsa is GORGEOUS.
