DH isn't budging from Edith which I do love but still have a fear that she may one day hate us for it Sad
Elsa has always been on the list but now I'm throwing Ivy and Cara in there too........ Help....... Throw me some similar names or tell me I'm being daft being afraid to use Edith when we love it

DD is Edith. It suits her down to a T! My Mum has always called her an 'old soul'. It's a great name, I certainly don't look at her and see blue rinse & stockings!

If you like it go for it.

KLou1105 · 26/06/2013 20:33

I prefer Elsa to edith and other similar names I like are Eliza and Elsie x

Spanishomelette · 25/06/2013 20:53

I really love the name Edith,I think it is very elegant and classic. I know a 2 year old called Edith and it suits her so well. Elsa and Cara are both very lovely too though!

Iseeall · 25/06/2013 15:07

Elsa. Timeless chic elegant.
Edith. Granny chic. Mumsnet popular.

Cara is very nice imo.

sundanceclaire · 25/06/2013 15:02

Elsa is much nicer than Edith.

Wishfulmakeupping · 25/06/2013 12:03

Love Edith

bugsybill · 25/06/2013 12:02

I quite like Edith. Use it, don't be afraid.

Has anyone suggested Esther?

Littlecherublegs · 25/06/2013 11:46

Ha, well I was only joking with Enid & Edna squoosh! (hence the '!!')

Though saying that I would put them in the same camp as Edith... along with names such as Mildred, Myrtle, Maud, etc.
Though I do know of a baby Maud!!

I also know a Hilda!!!!!!

notadoctor · 24/06/2013 22:20

P.S A couple of other suggestions: Thea, Thora, Nora, Hazel, Connie, Esme, Martha, Joan, Ursula, Sylvie.

plieadianpony · 24/06/2013 22:18

Elspeth...................

notadoctor · 24/06/2013 22:15

I really love both. But then I am a big fan of so called Granny-chic! Wink In case it helps - to me, Elsa is the more pretty, girly name and Edith the more feisty, tomboy one. I don't know if that sways you either way!

Also, for what it's worth my DD has the kind of old fashioned name which I know lots of people might not like but I don't mind whether they do or don't because I love it and it suits my DD down to the ground. She's only 19mo but she's currently announcing her name with pride and I'm hoping she'll always love it because it's hers.

Go with the name you most love and try not to worry if it's not everyone's cup of tea. Grin

SilverBirdie · 24/06/2013 21:26

Thanks all.... littlecherub Eliza is the only one I like there but not enough Sad

I have an Audrey which is a similar sort of name. There will always be people who think it's an old lady name which smells of wee. I think this viewpoint is going to fade though and to be honest, it doesn't bother me anyway because there are plenty of names I dislike but I wouldn't hold that against a child called one of them.

squoosh · 24/06/2013 20:53

Enid?! Edna?!

Edith sounds positively musical compared to those two.

Littlecherublegs · 24/06/2013 20:51

Much prefer Elsa to Edith.
I know a baby Elsie too which isn't to my taste but is kind of cute!
Don't like Ivy but do like Cara.

You might like Cora, Carla, Elise, Eliza, Betsy, Daisy, Molly, Iris, Ingrid, Enid, Edna...!!

Rhubarbgarden · 24/06/2013 20:49

I think Edith is incredibly beautiful.

Elquota · 24/06/2013 20:45

I prefer Edith to Elsa. Edie is a pretty nickname, whereas Elsa is a bit insipid. I like Ivy and Cara even more though.

VBisme · 24/06/2013 20:43

Love Edith, such a beautiful timeless name.

Redblackcar2 · 24/06/2013 20:42

Elsa is lovely

squoosh · 24/06/2013 20:16

Yes, there is no name that is universally loved. Go for Edith, you clearly love it. At the end of the day the person makes the name and not the other way around.

SilverBirdie · 24/06/2013 20:13

Didi is fabulous!! [Grin]

We have an Edith, and it is an increasingly popular name where we live (to my annoyance). It was my grandmother's name but we also thought it was quirky, strong and with a shortening if wanted. We have had mostly positive responses to it, although I'm aware of the view expressed on here.

I think all names have their fans and not. To me, Elsa is the Baroness in the Sound of Music! Go with one you love. I'm pretty confident an Edith won't get mocked for the name.

Ours, by the way, calls herself Didi, at the age of two. I can see it sticking.

Scarletbanner · 24/06/2013 20:05

Apostrophe fail! (Stupid phone)

Scarletbanner · 24/06/2013 20:05

I like Edith, Edie and Elsa. I also know 3 Edith's, aged 12, 6 and 5, so it's not totally out there. (Also know 2 Elsas)

squoosh · 24/06/2013 20:01

Well she'll definitely be a long limbed and elegant Elsa then!
