Dd has an "old lady but not in a good way" name apparently, which reminds people of a soap opera character. Ds's name is a one syllable diminutive. And his middle name is that of a living relative.

I'm glad MNetters put me off using 'Anemone' though.

K names are chavvy, thanks to the Kardashians and the Rooneys

Why no 'K' names? My name begins with a K and have always wondered when on here.
I asked mn advice on a name for my ds and it wasn't overly negative but it was considered too harsh for a child, fastforward to a few months ago and another mumsnetter asked the same question and got told it was drippy and weak.

Just read the rules. I don't agree with no alliteration! That can sound good. Moses Martin would sound shit (sorry Gwyneth) but Benjamin Bruce sounds good, or Gracie Garner

God yes - DS has a name which can't be shortened - on purpose, we didn't want him called a nn we wanted his actual name to be used which I always thought was the general purpose of a name.

It's from the bible but we aren't religious.

His middle name is his dad's name (his granddads had old man down the pub names (Len/Ron) so we stayed away from those) and DH & DS both have the same initials although in a different order.

Me - dds are hyphens and so am I and I give nary a gnats fart what mn thinks of that tbh.

The one that always makes me laugh is when people go on about whether a name is suitable for a Judge. Having a flaky name doesn't seem to have harmed Cherie Blair!

Oh I break the MN naming rules so badly I'm surprised I'm still allowed here!

DD has a 'chavvy' first name, which is Irish (neither me nor OH are) and has multiple accepted spellings and is generally in the top 100. Her middle name is both a surname and a boys name and is also in the top 100.

I was going to post in the baby name section before I had her but after flicking through I figured that seeing as my DD was not going to be called Elodie, Ottilie, Persephone (how do you pronounce that by the way?) or any of the 'grandma chic' type names, that there wasn't really much point.

No offence to any of those names, I just don't like them, but they seem to be suggested every thread.

My pfb is "madison" this is classed as chavvy or "just plain awful" as one mn-er called the name... Lovely! I love her name, it proper suits her and I can't imagine any other name!!

Dd2 has a name that's not broken any of these "rules" but I don't really care, her name is beautiful and again suits her down to a tee plus the meaning is very much true too!

DD has a common name ending in 'la'

DS1 has a very uncommon Gaelic (also Greek with a different spelling) name which is similar to a more common one so most people pronounce it incorrectly. It also begins with 'K'.

DS2 also has a Gaelic name. It's also uncommon but getting more popular. I chose the less usual spelling and although I usually get compliments one old lady did say
'I'm not going to take a guess at how to say that name, I can't even work out if it's a boys' name'
(His name is Torran and he's a great big hairy bruiser of a baby who in no way resembles a girl!)
