Who broke the MN rules when it came to naming their babies?

Just had a look at the MN name ad at the top of the page, seems there are a lot of MN rules Grin

DD1 has a very unusual name with a slightly unusual spelling - suits her down to the ground and we love it.

DD2 has, according to MN, got a very common name, perhaps even considered 'chavvy' by some, although we don't know anyone else by the same name, and it's not in the top 100 for England or Wales. It's also Welsh, and we are not, although we both have Celtic heritage (me more than DH) so Welsh blood is a possibility. We have to correct the pronunciation with most people. And, her middle name is French, and we are not. But, again, it suits her down to the ground and we love it.

Oh, and both their names mean the same thing - that was a coincidence, because initially I thought DD2's name meant something else as I have loved it for years, but only found out it's actual meaning when I was pregnant with her.

So who else has broken The Rules and couldn't give a hoot?

My DS has an alliteration Grin And I don't care, I love the name.

MabliD · 26/06/2013 16:40

Two middle names and nickname as first name, and it ends in ie which is twee to the extreme apparently.

Oh and it's one of the much loathed 'old lady names'.

Of course the lady she's named after would be 112 if she was still alive and that's pretty old by anyone's book...

I broke my own rule, and at least 1 MN rule.

I do love how my 2yr old thinks his name is bim bam. (RL is Abraham).

MultipleMama · 25/06/2013 23:03

My DS1's name breaks the rules. Unusual with crazy spelling. Was naive in naming him but I loved it and really don't care about the comments anymore :)

Ezza1 · 25/06/2013 16:49

Grin I like it. But needs to be slightly edgier.

I'm thinking Prinz Harpoonz Killah Walez...

ladymia · 25/06/2013 16:45

Me! I chose a surname for a name name

MarianneBrandon · 25/06/2013 15:57

DS has an old English name that started off as a surname so that rule is broken. His middle name is the Irish version of a popular biblical name even though we aren't Irish (Shock horror)

Most girl names that I like are in the top 100 so if I ever have a girl she will probably have a dreaded popular name

WireCat · 25/06/2013 13:26

I have researched my daughters name on this site.

Apparently her name is chavvy & she will be pushing a pram at 16. Grin

She wants to call herself Tia. I shall let her name change. Hmm

WireCat · 25/06/2013 13:18

My boys have really popular name. They have reasons behind their names though.

Top 3 names...shrugs...

My daughters name isn't popular but has risen in the top 100 since she was born.

I like my children's names. Thats what counts.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 25/06/2013 10:29

amazingmumof6 · 25/06/2013 00:11

LaJardin your children have lovely names!
I knew someone whose surname was Fabian, not my favourite person, so that would not have been for me, but DS1s middle name is David, after PIL
plus 2 of our nephews called Raphael and Thomas, brothers.

now I wonder if our kids would qualify for any kind of lemon award?!Grin

memphis83 · 24/06/2013 22:54

Ah the Kardashians, my K name is a Kardashian name but the only one that is normally spelt with a K. Grin

FunnysInLaJardin · 24/06/2013 22:49

amazing my dc are Fabian David and Raphael (Rafe) Thomas. Both middle names are their maternal GF's names. All boxes ticked. Not that I ever asked or told anyone before naming them. I didn't need anyone telling my pregnant self that the names were shit.

DD name begins with a K.

DS name is top 10 (James) family name though and it's always been my favourite boys name.

ipanicked · 24/06/2013 22:07

This thread just made me search for DD's name to see what MNetters say about it, and it came up in one of those "worst name EVER" threads

That means I broke the rules, right? Grin

Thinkingof4 · 24/06/2013 22:03

Ds1 has alliteration (fab name)
Ds3 is has same name as dh's late dog, and it's not even a proper name due to some rules in Gaelic
Ds2 is ok though Grin

IrisScentedCandle · 24/06/2013 21:20
