Is it odd to name a child after a pet?

DH and I had a lovely cat named milo about 10years ago. He died about 4 years ago. I'm PG and don't have many boys names that I like. I really like milo, but is it weird since we had a cat called that?

My childhood cat had the best name ever. I wouldn't give my DD the same name.

I had rats named lucy and chloe. I now have nieces named lucy and chloe Grin both my sister and bf kind of Hmm at it when I reminded them but they love the names so used them, I never think of the ratties when I hear the names - just the babies.

I don't think it's much of an issue if the pet is not still around. I had a lovely dog called Daisy as a child, and I would definitely have considered Daisy (as nn for Margaret) for a DD. Not after the dog but it wouldn't have put me off.

Milo is a lovely name, go for it!

Also Grin at the cat who couldn't tell the difference!

DS has the same name as my beloved dog from when I was a child.

We were talking about names recently and he said that if he ever has a son he'd call him Milo - after a friends dog. So it obviously doesn't bother DS at all.

I love Milo, I def considered it for my son but my dog is called Milo and he's still with us so that would be very strange lol but if the pet is no longer around and u really love the name I don't see a problem.

Just think if u don't use the name are u gonna regret it a few months down the line if u really love it

I don't think it's that weird. My parents had a cat called Lucy when I was very small,it wouldn't stop me using the name.

Though my own dogs name has forever written off Camilla. The obvious nickname would make things confusing, can't be shouting Milly and having both dog and child come running.

No, unless the pet was called Whiskers, Smudge or Spot, etc

My cousin named her dd after a previous family dog, Hannah.

Growing up our cat was Lottie, I would use it as a girl's name (not that I'm having more kids). I used to work at riding schools and did equine at college, as such I have known lots of horses, including two with both of my dc's names, I didn't think about this until recently though!

A great aunt was born on the same day as the queen. Her parents waited to hear what the princess would be called so they could do the same. However she was called Elizabeth and my great aunt's big sister was already called Elizabeth so they called her Jane after the horse.

Bit of a step down for poor great aunt Jane. Sad

The most popular 2012 UK dogs names. There are a lot more people names on the list than doggy names.

Two of my kids are named after nieghbours dogs.

The lesson to be learned, don't use your favourite names on your pets!

But I had s friend whose family adopted two cats, one of which had the same name as my friend. The cat tended to have various nicknames instead
