Its a family name (eatern European)

Could I use it? Even as a middle name?
Could Rudy be an acceptable nickname?

I don't understand the love for Rudy.

I'm with others here.

ZolaBuddleia · 04/07/2013 17:25

Love love love Rudy.

othersideofchannel · 04/07/2013 14:47

I'm surprised not everyone hears the 'rude' part in rudy. It's like calling someone nicey or baddy, isn't it. Unless you, after a while don't think of that and just think of the person, but still.

I have a German uncle called Rudolf nickname Rudi, but in German it has no meaning of course. So it does work in non-English speaking languages imo.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 04/07/2013 13:56

There was a Rudy at school with me. He never got teased about his name.

thegreylady · 04/07/2013 11:27

"stocking tops and legalodes and.....RUDIES" we sang at our girls' grammar school if someone's skirt was too short [late 50s].

othersideofchannel · 04/07/2013 11:01

I can just imagine his primary aged peers singing Rudy the Rude one, Rudy the Rude one... Grin. Sorry, but I really feel that it would be a little cruel.

othersideofchannel · 04/07/2013 10:59

I quite like Rudolph and Rudyard, but you cannot name a person Rudy in an english speaking country because it implies he is very Rude!!

orderinformation · 03/07/2013 23:16

Rudy is brilliant.

Depends where you live. My part of London so diverse no one gets teased for their name

AllegraLilac · 29/06/2013 23:52

Go for Rudyard.

clippityclop · 29/06/2013 21:19

Don't. Life's tough enough without that...

RaRaZ · 29/06/2013 21:08

God no. Never. He'll never ever live it down, especially when he has a cold.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 28/06/2013 22:15

I think it's fine! As long as he's not born at Christmas time.

TiggerWearsATriteSmile · 28/06/2013 22:09

I wouldn't even use t as a middle name TBH.

Try again.

lollydollydrop · 28/06/2013 22:08

No, you cant use it. Try Rupert or Rufus

rockybalboa · 20/06/2013 19:42

Rudy is lovely.

EuphemiaLennox · 20/06/2013 19:29

Thanks all sounds like Rudolph a no go, except a middle name.

I love Rudy, Rudyard's rather cool.

tammytoby · 20/06/2013 06:52

But a rude-y is someone very rude!

ilovemulberry · 19/06/2013 20:01

Not keen on Rudolf but love Rudy

CrapBag · 19/06/2013 17:51

What squoosh said.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 19/06/2013 17:24

Hess or the red noses reindeer. Not good either way. Rudy is lovely though.

deemented · 19/06/2013 17:22

My late grandfather was a Rudolph, known as Rudy, and my uncle was named after him is known as Bozar.

experimental · 19/06/2013 17:18

...the red nosed reindeer. It will be sung to him all through school life and beyond. If you lived in a different country then maybe but you can't do that to a child living in the UK.

bugsybill · 19/06/2013 15:23

I think it I fine as a middle name but I would avoid as a first name.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 19/06/2013 14:37

I know a Rudolf (scandinavian family) and he really likes it and he hates Rudy. Other than a bit of teasing when little, he has not had any problems with it other than people always trying to spell it Rudolph like the reindeer...
