I genuinely adore the sound of this name...and it has a lovely meaning.

I get the HP reference isn't great and the rhyming perhaps...but I'd love to use it...

Siblings are Arlo and Skye,is Myrtle just too different? Do they sit oddly together?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I actually like Myrtle, but I think it might be hard to wear, and I don't think it goes well with Arlo and Skye at all. It seems to me like it's on the extreme end of the "so old and fusty that it's ready to be cool again" trend, and I feel like only a certain kind of child could pull it off.

I sort of like Myrto, the name of the wife of Socrates. That may be too far out there, though.

I knew a Myrtle once. The name has lovely Greek mythological history - she told me. But no - she was moaning myrtle grown old and I still shudder when I think of her and inwardly remember the groan when she came out as I put my key in the lock to go in. Cross eyes, heavy boned, lace-ups, headscarf knotted under her chin, checked shopping bag.

I can't help it OP but no, just no. Bugsy bill has some good ideas though.

I can't really see it on a person, sorry. I just think myrtle the turtle. Doesn't really go with the siblings names either.

Agnes?
Martha?
Greta?
Ivy?
Laurel?
Sorrel?
Silver?
Lilith?
Estelle?
Esther?

Makes me think of Myrtle Beach.

Elquota · 19/06/2013 02:48

I like it!

If older-style names such as Agnes, Martha, Daphne and Maud can be popular on here, then I don't see why Myrtle shouldn't be.

ZolaBuddleia · 19/06/2013 02:32

It's one of those old lady names like Maureen and Gladys, it's just not made the shift into granny chic.

When are you due, by the way, I often look at your name threads! I think we have similar taste (apart from Myrtle!).

moreyear · 19/06/2013 02:17

I think it's very sweet.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 19/06/2013 02:11

I think it's pretty (pretty flower too) and works with Arlo and Skye. People may think Moaning Myrtle the first time they hear it, but soon the first association will be your dd.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 19/06/2013 01:56

Mila would be better, maybe? Or Martha, Marta, Mariam, Miriam, Marla. Myrtle is very old-lady ish and doesn't sound pretty, I think she'd be teased :(

MortifiedAdams · 19/06/2013 01:49

A sibling for Arlo and Skye (I remember your previous posts and know Skye wasnt your choice, mch as I like.it), would be Liv.

MortifiedAdams · 19/06/2013 01:48

Sounds too close to Mirkin for my liking.

experimental · 19/06/2013 01:46

Yes they do sit oddly. It doesn't sound a pleasant name it is hideous

Arlo & Skye seem more on the cool end of names. Is there anything else you like?
