If I introduce my dd as Elodie Grace, what's your first thought?

Hello!

I'm narrowing our short list and Elodie Grace is the current front runner ( only thing is that the front runner seems to change every other day). Just wondering what your first thought on that name is.

Also, what would you be likely to end up shortening it to in time, if anything?

Thanks in advance!

Elodie Grace, what a beautiful name Smile

peachypips · 14/06/2013 13:56

My honest first thought, and I hope you're not offended. I would think, oh, another person trying to use an unusual name, and not another one with grace as a middle name!
Sorry. This is what I would genuinely be thinking. However, I actually like the names!

SixPackWellies · 14/06/2013 13:56

Love the name. It is gentle, elegant, seems almost spiritual. Lovely.

josiejay · 14/06/2013 13:53

I love it - would have liked it for DD but didn't hear it till after she'd already been named in my head iykwim. Since then I've heard it a lot so I think it's shot up in popularity this year - if you're bothered about that, I'm not.

MummyPig24 · 14/06/2013 13:42

Love it. I know 2 Elodies and neither are shortened to Ellie. One is occasionally called DeeDee.

AmIGoingMad · 14/06/2013 13:34

It's said Ello dee but I can see what you're saying. I'm aware that its becoming more popular but I have only met a 30 yr old Elodie in France at this point in time. I am wondering if I would get a bit annoyed with people saying ella dee but hopefully this would be mostly remedied with verbal introductions.

First thought:
How do you say Elodie? "'Ello Dee?" or "Ella-dee" or rhyme with Melody....?
2nd thought: it will be mispelt often, as well as mis-spoken.
3rd: I envy kids with short simple names when it comes to learning to write them & recognise them. Not to mention say them (DS2 had speech delay & could not say own name clearly until like... nearly 7?)
4th: none of that matters very much, am firmly in the If-you-love-it-go-for-it-camp.

ps: I think Theodora shortened to Teddy would be very sweet.

AmandaPandtheTantrumofDoom · 14/06/2013 12:57

Pretty name.

If I met you without your daughter and you said 'she's called Elodie Grace' I would be certain she was aged 0-4 though. Elodie has ballooned in recent years. And Grace (and Rose) are very much the middle names du jour. Not a bad thing, but depends if it bothers you.

sherbetpips · 14/06/2013 12:34

Most will probably say Melody but its a nice name, prefer Grace as the first name though.

lottiegarbanzo · 14/06/2013 12:28

First reaction, that's a very gentle, elegant name.

SlumberingDormouse · 14/06/2013 12:26

Oh, and she is always known to her friends as 'Elodie'. I've never heard anyone shorten it, so it's by no means inevitable.

SlumberingDormouse · 14/06/2013 12:25

I know an Elodie in her twenties - beautiful girl inside and out, and her name suits her down to the ground. She has never (AFAIK) had any problems with it.

CityGal29 · 14/06/2013 12:24

Love love elodie but Ellie and Eleanor is such a common name around here.

PestoSwimissimos · 14/06/2013 12:23

I would say "Did you say Elodie or Melody?"

Because I don't always hear things properly the first time round Blush

mixedmamameansbusiness · 14/06/2013 12:19

I would say "hello Elodie".

EuroShaggleton · 14/06/2013 12:05

Two of my favourite names together!

ivykaty44 · 14/06/2013 12:04

I know two Elodie's and they haven't had their names shortened, tis a pretty name

piratecat · 14/06/2013 12:00

i would name her Edie.

MardyBra · 14/06/2013 11:52

I would think you were a MNer. I'd never heard the name Elodie until I joined MN and have never met an Elodie in RL.

Mind you, it is a pretty name and being a MNer is no bad thing.

AmIGoingMad · 14/06/2013 11:48

Thanks ladies! Keep the opinions coming!Smile

I like it, so long as you're not expecting everyone to call her Elodie Grace all the time.

Edie is a lovely nickname

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 14/06/2013 11:30

Hyphenated, even.

SpecialAgentTattooedQueen · 14/06/2013 11:29

Love it, except as a warning I suggest you always introduce her as her hyphanted name. My cousin announced the birth of his daughter 'Jane' (Fake) Then at family gatherings it was very forced when he all of a sudden started insisted we all call her Jane-Lee after she was a year old. Confused

Such a pretty name. Makes me think of a starry night for some reason.

If shortened, around here she'd be Ellie or Elle.

chocoluvva · 14/06/2013 11:26

I love Grace.

Not so convinced by Elodie - Melody?

If you and your OH like it - you go for it though.

SanityClause · 14/06/2013 11:25

I think most people would say all names for a new born baby, so I wouldn't assume it was hyphenated.

Very pretty name, IMO.
