If I introduce my dd as Elodie Grace, what's your first thought?

Hello!

I'm narrowing our short list and Elodie Grace is the current front runner ( only thing is that the front runner seems to change every other day). Just wondering what your first thought on that name is.

Also, what would you be likely to end up shortening it to in time, if anything?

Thanks in advance!

She might get called LOD when older!
As in Elle (L) Oh (O) Dee (D)

by someone daft like me

Shameless bump for afternoon traffic!Grin

Elodie is pretty, grace is very common at mo. I would put it with a more traditional middle name like Anne

cuillereasoupe · 16/06/2013 08:51

I'd think that you'd forever be able to pinpoint the child's age to within two years.

AmIGoingMad · 16/06/2013 08:03

Thanks for being honest! I have said several times that there'll be no hyphenation though as I agree on that point!

I do have French links though!Smile

Oh, and the last one I came across was the winner in a local newspaper bonny baby contest and had a hyphen middle name (not Grace though!)

TheBirdsFellDownToDingADong · 16/06/2013 07:50

For me, minimuffin on previous page sums it up. It could well be the next Ruby.

I would bear in mind:
Any French connection? If not, then I wouldn't use a French name because it sounds try-too-hard. (other side of the coin, I know an Italian child called Kevin and it just makes everyone roll their eyes- I don't think Elodie would do that- because it's becoming very Ruby-esque IYSWIM!)

A name ending in a ie-y sound would be mauled by a fair few UK accents. Birmingham, Liverpool, Lahndon town would pulverise it.

Grace is default middle name along with May and Rose. All 3 very pretty. But all 3 very overused.

No hyphen ever adds anything positive to a name.

Thanks for the opinions ladies! It's good to read them- both in favour of name and not so much!

Lovely name, really pretty.

GW297 · 15/06/2013 10:35

Elodie Grace is an absolutely beautiful name.

Oldandcobwebby · 15/06/2013 08:42

I have honestly never come across Elodie before. Grace is OK, but Elodie sounds a bit twee and neuvaux riche to me. (Sorry to be both negative and judgey in one sentence).

ChasedByBees · 15/06/2013 08:27

I love the name Elodie and it was on the short list for my DD. I knew an Elodie at school who had just moved from France and the name has a great sense of rhythm. What put me off was that I have no French links so I thought it might be a bit pretentious to use it and also that it would be shortened to Ellie which I don't like.

Pretty name though!

MrsCampbellBlack · 15/06/2013 08:19

Elodie is lovely and I love edie too.

And Theodora is just gorgeous - also worth contemplating another baby to have a little dd called teddy

AmIGoingMad · 15/06/2013 08:15

Ha this Tracy thing is definitely not so good IMO. Maybe I should have worded that differently! It's the general Grace Kelly in her hey day (?) that I meant and High Society is an example of a film she made then!

I see what you mean about Ella dee and am trying to decide if it would annoy me. I am a French speaker so could potentially find the change in pronunciation a little irritating. Not sure if this is enough to steer me from the name but am really liking the different points for consideration people are bringing up- as well as the really positive ones!Smile

I think Elodie is very pretty, but Grace is so overused it's very boring, and I'd be a little bit worried that she could end up sharing her name if she ends up going by Ellie. Even with your reasons (and my first thought was the character too, but Elodie Tracy really doesn't sound good!)

BlueStarsAtNight · 15/06/2013 03:12

I like it, I think it sounds very elegant. I know a baby Elodie though and almost everyone says it "Ella dee' rather than 'ello dee', so make sure you think qbout whether that will really bug you or not! The only people I know who really pronounce the 'ello' are French.

BoffinMum · 15/06/2013 00:38

Yer what?

minimuffin · 14/06/2013 23:38

Elodie is pretty but I think it could be the next Ruby, I hear it a lot. Grace is sooooo common as a middle name, along with Rose. When I was at school everyone in the class was "something" Jane, Elizabeth or Louise. Now it seems to be Grace or Rose as the default middle name. So my reaction to it is always an internal yawn

mosuzu · 14/06/2013 21:37

I would think meh. Elodie goes into all those Ellie/Ava/Evie names for me and if it is combined with Grace, which along with Rose & May, seems to be most little girls middle names lately it seems very boring. Sorry.

forcookssake · 14/06/2013 21:25

I would think you had French links WRT Elodie. Grace is frequently used these days, particularly as a middle name, I know two girls with it as their middle name.
All together, it is a pretty, feminine name Smile

TolliverGroat · 14/06/2013 21:18

Oh Lord... "have the vaguest idea what my DCs' middle names are" not "have the vaguest idea what my DCs' names are". Obviously there are lots and lots of people who know what their names are even if I mix them up to a degree that you'd be forgiven for assuming I wasn't one of those people Blush

CocktailQueen · 14/06/2013 18:17

I'd say, Melody? Because elodie isn't on my radar of names....

AmIGoingMad · 14/06/2013 18:07

Ha balloon! Grin Doesn't quite have til he same ring to it in my opinion! Grin

BalloonSlayer · 14/06/2013 17:41

"it makes me think of her all elegant in High Society!"

oh in that case you can call her Tracy! Grin

Corygal · 14/06/2013 17:17

Elodie is a beaut - go for it.
