Cecil - thoughts?

As names like Arthur and Stanley become more mainstream will a name like Cecil or Francis make a comeback?

I thought this to myself and re Cecil thought "no never". But then I'd have thought the same about Stanley.

Also though t of ssesil, Francis is ds2's middle name so obviously I like it.

Francis is one of those names that has never been in or out of fashion.

What about Cyril? I had a great-uncle Cyril, but the only others I've ever come across were Cyrille Regis (footballer) and a French bloke.

Sounds too old even for an old guy. Not recommended and deffo not to be shortened especially if your surname is Pitt.

Cecil is horrible, and the American pronunciation See-sil is even worse. I do know a female Cecil though, which is odd.

I don't like it- makes me think of elderly men, but not cute for a baby in the way some other old fashioned names are.

Francis is popular. I never have thought of it as an old mans name. Or cool. There's loads of boy and girl Frankies running around.

DD's DF(rather than BF) is a Francis, never thought twice about it, but Cecil just No.

I think Francis is already back a bit, I've taught 2 or 3. Never taught a Cecil!

I don't think it will ever be cool. I don't know what I think to all these old mad names. Every other boy seems to be Arthur these days.

Bloody hell, Cecil really would be the limit as far as the 'old man chic' trend is concerned.

I'd have to start a petition or something, or maybe wave my fist at the sky.

My dad was called Cecil! Mind you he'd be 95 now if he was still alive...

It's a tricky name for anyone who can't pronounce the 's' sound properly (like me).

Isn't it always pronounced 'Sissle'?

I personally hate it. I think it's all the 'ss's, sounds snakey.

Love Francis though.

I think Mark and John are due comebacks.

I thought of "Sissil" from Room with a View too, but actually Cecil is a great and unusual name. I should go for it. Like Cecil Balmond the architect for example.
