Arthur, Tristan, Alexander and similar, plus nicknames

What other names might we like? I like Zachary, Leo, Sebastian, Ruben and Oliver, too, but they have all been vetoed. DH is German, so it needs to work in both languages.

Arthur - are there any other nns apart from Art/Arty?

Tristan - nn?

Alexander -- anything other than Alex?

Great suggestions, thank you.

DH doesn't seem to think a nickname is necessary either and I just read that thread where people who choose nicknames before birth are considered odd, but I like nicknames! I'm always called by my nickname, so is DH (when speaking in English). DD has a name that doesn't lend itself too well to nicknames, but she still has one that has kind of naturally evolved over time. Maybe that would be the case with Arthur ...

Henry and Frederick have also been floating around our list.

As I am only 4 weeks pregnant, I may be getting ahead of myself slightly Grin I am aware it doesn't have to be decided tonight!

Having said that, we both really like Arthur Jonathan. Thoughts?

I like the name Arthur Grin and other names I also like (so therefore you may!) include
Stanley
Frederick
George
Henry
Angus
Eric
Cedric
Albert
Alfred
Some nice Germanic ones there!

BTW IME Arthur is not usually shortened. Is a nickname essential?

Tristan: Stan, Trix (variants).
I'd be searching your DH's family tree for nice men's names.

BabyLabyrinth · 08/06/2013 20:48

I think Arthur is top of the list. (Congrats on your DS, Doodle!) I love Reuben/Ruben, too, but DH thinks the Ru sound in German doesn't sound that nice Hmm. Leonard was used by a friend just recently.

Any ideas for a nn for Tristan?

Arthur is the best name ever! nothing to do with the fact that my adorable 5mo is called Arthur!

We also liked Milo, Reuben, Sidney, Elliot and Oliver if that is any help?

Lysander (Sander)

BabyLabyrinth · 08/06/2013 19:49

Adam has been suggested by DH this evening! We both quite like Mathias, but there are quite a few spelling variations, which annoys me.

Alistair is the wrong colour ... I see names in colours and Alistair is all washed out and pale.

Alastair/Alistair?

Nn for Alexander - I know a Xander. Pronounced Zander.
