I don't want to keep asking friends as if we do name our baby boy a name they didn't like I don't want them to feel awkward. our choices so far

  • Ralph
  • Stanley
  • Dennis
  • Teddy
  • Albie

All grand names but Albie's the grandest of them all, IMO Grin

sjclarke86 · 09/06/2013 15:42

Well your naming a baby but yes the name has to suit baby-teen - man

seeker · 09/06/2013 09:09

Just remember you're naming an adult man, not a baby.

sjclarke86 · 09/06/2013 09:08

I have never heard of Ralph meaning vomit before but seems like its well known, must just be me.

We know these are old man names, we just wanted something different from Harry, Charlie, Archie- I do like these names I just know friends with babies called these. We are theist ones really to have children so its a case of finding a name not being used.

I love Stanley, Dennis I haven't heard on any youngsters but quite like, I love Edward but don't like Teddy as the actual name, not keen on Albie and really don't like Ralph it makes me think of vomit

squeak2392 · 08/06/2013 19:55

Love Stanley, not keen on the rest.

Ralph has always sounded stupid to me
Teddy and Albie are nns and imo aren't good names anyway
Dennis sounds grandad but not grandad chic to me. But my grandad is called Dennis so I could be biassed.

CheeseStrawWars · 08/06/2013 13:16

Are you pronouncing Ralph as "ralf" or "rafe"? Ralph pronounced "ralf" is slang for "to puke".

I find Teddy a bit twee, and Dennis reminds me of the trucks. The others are okay.

AgathaPinchBottom · 08/06/2013 13:01

I have a Ds called Stanley! And we also considered Ralph and Teddy - all of which I love. I also know a really cool Albie! Really great name choices.

Happymum22 · 08/06/2013 12:28
  • Ralph - agree on judy blume (used it as a nickname for the boy's penis...) but kids wouldn't know that, it just may be other mothers.
  • Stanley - reminds me of a dog
  • Dennis - dennis the menis
  • Teddy - really like
  • Albie - not sure, bit odd.
MsJupiterJones · 08/06/2013 12:09

Ralph to me will always be Judy Blume.

Dennis is good, I know 2 little Dennises so think it is becoming more popular?

I'm not a full-name obsessive but Albie does sound very nicknamey. Albert is great or even Albion?

Teddy I'm not a huge fan of. Stanley is quite sweet and another one becoming more popular although not overly so.

LanternGirl · 07/06/2013 20:34

Ralph is great. Cool and Masculine as banana said. Like Edward, but nn Ned. Teddy/Ted is v well used around us.

Don't like the rest, Stanley and Albie sound completley camp to me. Albie is usually short for Albert. Dennis is an awful name, but I don't have your positive associations to improve it! What about using it as a mn?

sjclarke86 · 07/06/2013 20:11

Thanks bananarama. I have never heard albie before, not until my husband mentioned it last night. I know Alfie, Archie etc are quite popular. Dennis was my great uncles name we were quite close and his bday is two weeks for d day so if he comes by chance on the same day then maybe it was meant to be :)

Thank god for some positives I was starting to think our child was doomed before birth haha

I really like Ralph! Cool, masculine and not overused.

I really dislike the currnetly fashionable Albie/Alfie/Teddy type names, sorry.

Dennis actually has a nice sound to it and I don't know anyone, old or young, with that name.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/06/2013 20:02

I like Ralph
Love teddy
Love albie

Hate the others Grin

MyNameIsSuz · 07/06/2013 20:00

I love Ralph! SIL and I both had it on our lists (pregnant at the same time) but I would pronounce it Ralf and she would pronounce it Rafe - for that reason it was struck from both our lists! I couldn't stand the thought of people using the other pronunciation. I still really like it though. Stanley and Teddy are also nice, but really don't like Dennis.

PixelAteMyFace · 07/06/2013 19:56

Id say Ralph is the best, def. dont like the other choices.

Fifi2406 · 07/06/2013 19:55

Teddy and Ralph! Love love loveeeee both!

BabyStone · 07/06/2013 19:31

not keen on any I'm afraid, a family member (3years old) is Teddy not a nn, and I know of an Albie. So those 2 names are probably the best out the bunch

Elquota · 07/06/2013 19:30

Or you could have Theodore/Edwin/Edmund with Teddy as nickname?

MrsBungle · 07/06/2013 19:30

Ted is ok not on.

Elquota · 07/06/2013 19:30

I'd only use Teddy and Albie as nicknames for Edward and Albert, which are both nice names. I wouldn't use them as stand-alone names though.

I quite like Stanley, but not Ralph or Dennis.

MrsBungle · 07/06/2013 19:30

I don't mind Ralph. Ted is on. Don't like the others. Dennis is truly awful!
