I also agree with your DP. Francesca would be my spelling however, not Franchesca. Roberta I wouldn't choose because I don't like the NN Bobbie.

I would spell the MN Grace, not Grayce, and Mae, not Mai.

Google reveals it's of Greek origin and means 'poor one', English, from the name Taylor, and also apparently Japanese for 'valley field', so imo it's made up.

Taisiya sounds lovely.

bugsybill · 22/06/2013 00:11

Does it mean princess?

I had a quick google and found it is short for the Russian Taisiya which means favourite. Maybe your dh would prefer that if he likes longer names. Also maybe Tiana? Tatiana?
Or does he like Maya?

Taya is much nicer than Tia which clearly means aunt Hmm

Dominodonkey · 21/06/2013 19:43

I am with your DP on this.

Is there a particular reason you don't like correct spellings of names (Mae, Mai)

AdiosMuffinTop · 21/06/2013 19:34

Prefer Thea

But I knew a Théo who pronounced it teyo so I suppose taya could be written Théa. Please write it Théa. It looks so much better.

winkygirl · 21/06/2013 18:45

My DD's friend is Taya, not the least bit chavvy.

My reaction was pretty name, may be "made up" but if it is Taya sounds like it is a traditional name somewhere in the world.

Conclusion: like it Grin

IWantToBeADragon · 21/06/2013 17:33

I adore it, i know two, one is 9 the second is 4 and was named Taya because i mentioned the older Taya to my best friend who fell in love with the name.
Both utterly gorgeous girls, neither in the least "chavvy"

itwilldomebad · 21/06/2013 16:08

SugarMouse Why?

Thanks all for opinions.

I want a name that means princess but DP thinks it's chavvy. I want to change his mind though.
He likes Franchesca or Roberta.
I am thinking Mae or Mai, Grayce for middle name.

Are you black, OP?

My elderly relative called Thalia was born in the 1930s. Her mother wanted a very unusual name so went for Thalia, pronouncing it Thay-le-a. I don't think she would've been aware of alternative pronunciations, she just chose a name she'd found when reading a book about Greek mythology.

I think my relative called Thalia would be absolutely delighted that the name has been revived recently as Tar-le-a or Tay-le-a!

Interesting about different pronunciations in different locations -this Thalia was from North West England.

forevergreek · 09/06/2013 17:09

Thalia isn't usually thay-le-a (failure) though. It's tar-le-a or Tay-le-a depending on location.

ShadeofViolet · 09/06/2013 17:03

I knew a Taya at school, we called her Potayta.

God we were such bitches Blush

usualsuspect · 09/06/2013 17:01

I like it very much.

picnicbasketcase · 09/06/2013 16:57

I really like it. I considered it for a while when pg with what turned out to be DS.

dyzzidi · 09/06/2013 16:46

DH and I agreed years ago that when we are finally able to get a dog, she will be called Taya. Grin

FetaCheeny · 09/06/2013 16:38

I like it

SugarMouse1 · 09/06/2013 10:13

Sorry, Taya is a bit chavvy, very R'n'B, gangsta type name.

I do like Tea, though, with the accent I think its an Eastern European name of some sort, I met a man who said that was his sisters name.

I know of a Taia-Faye and that's just awful, IMO

May also be mistaken for Taylor a lot.

marriednotdead · 08/06/2013 21:34

I assumed it was an African name, thinking of Tayo.

BlueStarsAtNight · 08/06/2013 21:29

Sounds a bit trying-too-hard-to-come-up-with-a-unique-name to me.

MustafaCake · 08/06/2013 21:14

Sounds made up.

DonDrapersAltrEgoBigglesDraper · 08/06/2013 21:09

Not to my taste.

I know a Taija (pn Tie-a); think it's Scandanavian.

squeak2392 · 08/06/2013 20:02

I assume it's pn Tay-a.
I do like it but I much prefer the spelling Téa (although some people will read that as Tea.

Mintyy · 07/06/2013 20:31

Like but not love.
