Thoughts on Archie?

Ok so I have a dd called Eilidh and am pregnant with dc 2. Think we have decided a girls name (Annabel or Annabelle) so now just have to decide on a boys name.

Dh and I both love Archie but I am a bit worried about other people's reactions to it?

Honestly is it awful? And if you don't like it,do you think it's horrendous or just now for you?

No he wouldn't be Archibald, just Archie. It's definitely not a chavvy name here, more old fashioned than chavvy in my area and I actually don't know any children called Archie.

I wouldn't want a name that was too popular or overused though.

Lots to think about thanks so much everyone.

Really struggling with boys names - I have none that I really like but Archie stood out for dh and I. However the more I say it the more I question it...Shock

I like the name Archie but it seems to be getting a bit over-used ,like Alfie.

I really like it

It was DH's choice for DS but I do know a lot of Archie' s so we didn't go for it in the end. I do think it will be be associated with children of the 'noughties' but no bad thing if you like the name...

Surely, whether some people regard Archie as 'chavvy' will depend on who they know with the name.

It's not that I don't like it, I actually find it quite cute. But my partners dog is called Archie so couldn't call my child it and it would always remind me of a dog. Same thing happened to the name Paula for me too.

All the cutesy Archie/Alfie type names have become so fashionable recently that I think it is only a matter of time for people to tire of them and they falling out of favour, sounding dated.

I love Eilidh and think that there are far nicer, more elegant boys' names!

It seems very popular. I immediately think 'Archibald' - even though people seem to have the nickname as a stand alone name.

Agree with shattered - I live in London too, maybe that's why it strikes me as chavvy.

Round my way (Greater London) it is common and frequently shrieked by vest wearing tattoo covered giant earring wearing roots need doing fag smoking overweight mothers. And the shrieking is constant as they are always naughty little buggers.

Judgey pants waaaay past my ears

But if you're not round my way I think you will be fine.

Not in Scotland, but in the borders. We thought about it as a nn for Arthur, but realised it was just an excuse to use Archie! Goes really well with Eilidh and far less 'of the moment' than Alfie/Charlie and also stands up better on its own. Go for it!

I know a baby called Archer who is mostly known as Archie, I like it.

Sorry, I don't like it. I'm really not a fan of shortened versions as full names such as Alfie, Charlie, Archie. I prefer to have the full name and then use the shortened version but not sure about saddling a baby with Archibald

There goes that word again, chavvy! How a name can be chavvy is beyond me. i like archie but the popularity would put me off... having said that im not in scotland so i have no idea how popular it is there!
